Details of swap:

12 Days of Christmas 2007 original thread: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=195682.0
12 Days of Christmas 2007 Gallery: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=195684.0

The idea of this swap is to craft for your partner 12 groups of items (78 items in total!!) based on their interests, going along with the idea of the 12 Days Of Christmas song. The items that you make DO NOT have to be the items IN the 12 days of Christmas song. The items sent/received can be BOTH everyday items and chtistmas/Winter themed goodies. I promise you won't receive 78 knitted christmas sweaters, mittens and scarves, unless you and your partner agree to do this! HAHA!

You will label the gift individually with the numbers 12-1, so that your partner knows which day is in which package(s). We will start opening the packages on December 14th with the #12 package. Inside would be 12 things. On December 15th you would open the #11 package and inside there should be 11 things. And on and on until on December 25th when you will open the #1 package.

Each day can have a "theme" if you want, but this is not mandatory. You could have day 5 be 5 crocheted granny squares, while day 6 could be a pair of earrings + a set of gift tags + a fabric headband + a tea towel + embossing powder and some handmade paper

I would like to see that the 78 items you send have the following stipulation:  75% handmade 25% store bought
This is approximately 60 handmade and 18 store bought or 59/19. which ever works for you.
If you buy an item from etsy.com, a craft fair, or any other handmade site that is handmade I consider it handmade and may go into the 75% handmade list. Store bought to me implies COMMERCIALLY manufactured, mass produced and/or supplies.

This is a pretty big swap commitment so if you are not sure that you can fulfill the obligations please do not sign up. This swap will end up taking a lot of time/money/resources, so please plan accordingly. Some of last years participants said they spent a large amount of $$ in shipping alone! Also, it is VERY IMPORTANT that the packages get sent ON TIME so please make sure that you can get to the post office.

The RULES:

1. You must send ALL PM's to kishcrafts and all PM's  must have the subject line: 12 Days of Christmas Swap 2008

2.You must post in the original thread at least once a week! This starts once partners are assigned. That is only about 12 posts.

3.PM's must be sent to kishcrafts and your partner when you send and receive.  If you are sending within the USA you must get a DC# and send it to kishcrafts and your partner. They cost an extra $.75 in addition to the postage price. If you are sending outside of your country, you must keep your receipt as proof of shipping and send a picture/scan of it to kishcrafts!!! This is mandatory!

5.When you open each days package, you will then need to post in your mini gallery. More info on this will be given after your questionnaire is approved. I ask that you post pictures within a reasonable amount of time. I know that they Holiday season can be quite hectic, but please get them posted within 3 days of opening. All of your pictures will be posted in your mini gallery. Posting pictures is a requirement for this swap! No feedback will be give unless your mini gallery is filled with pictures of your 12 packages. If you don't have a digital camera and cannot get access to one, please ask your partner to take pictures before they send.

6. There will be a halfway check in point and a one week to go check in point as well. I will send each of you a PM and you must reply back.

7. The following items are NOT allowed in swap packages:
- Anything that is illegal in the U.S. or wherever you are sending your package to or from.
- Any items that have a legal age requirement to consume in the U.S. such as tobacco, alcohol, pornography etc.
- Mixed CDs containing copyrighted music or similar, including copied software, CDs, DVDs, etc.

Recommendations from your swap organizer:

1. I would recommend that your days 12-7 be "small" items, days 6-4 be "medium" items and days 3-1 be "large" items. Less time intensive things should be made for the larger numbered days and more time intensive projects for the smaller numbered days. Smiley

craftsters guidelines for swaps are as follows:

By Time
-Big = 3 or more hours
-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Little = 2 or less hours

By Size
-Big = A shawl, a shirt, a skirt, a set of jewelry with four to five items, a purse
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks

By Price
-Big = $30 or more
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less

2. If you are sending BAKED GOODS, please only send them if you live in the USA and your partner does too. I don't want anyone's package to go MIA with the lovely customs officials. Also, if you are sending baked goods, you may leave them out of your 1st send out package and include them  in the 2nd or send them in a completely separate package so they arrive in a timely manner and don't spoil or go stale.

3. I highly recommend that you wrap your items in a plastic bag/trash bag/ or some other protective wrapping INSIDE the box you are sending. There were a handful of swappers in last years round that received boxes from their swap partners that were WET due to the post office/ups/etc leaving them on the doorstep and a winter rain/snow came through AND some swappers have suggested that you also do this with anything you might send to a hot climate that might melt on your swap goodies. Wouldn't it suck to have worked so hard on a crocheted lap blanket just to send it with some delicious chocolate that melts all over it!! EEP! Sad

4. Also, if you will be shipping TO a partner that is in a HOT climate during the swap send outs, please do not include any thing that might melt on their swap goodies. Think about wrapping them in a plastic baggie or something similar.

5. Here is some info from the USPS on the Flat Rate Boxes: these can be use for Domestic and International but the rates differ for International shipments. And if you purchase your postage online at usps.com or by paypal, com you get a small discount on the postage price. And as superhooker mentioned, the Flat Rate boxes themselves are FREE (you still have to pay for postage Tongue ) from your local post office and also FREE if you get them online from the website usps.com, they will deliver them to you free of charge too!!

Flat Rate Boxes are available in multiple sizes and shapes to accommodate a variety of contents and shipping needs.

Both Flat Rate Boxes, the shirt box size (11" x 8.5" x 5.5") and the shoe box size (13.625" x 11.875" x 3.375"), can be used for domestic and international shipping.
Available to anywhere in the U.S. for $9.80
One rate to Canada and Mexico for $23.95
One rate to all other countries for $38.95
*20 pound maximum for international shipments

The Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Box, (12" x 12" x 5.5") is 50% larger than the original Flat Rate Boxes.
   Domestic $12.95
   APO/FPO $10.95
   Canada/Mexico $29.95
   Other countries $49.95

The contents of the flat rate box must be neatly contained inside the box with adhesive packaging tape.
The box must close securely and retain its shape when taped with adhesive.
The shape of the box may not be changed or enlarged to fit its contents.

Some swappers last year did say that they had sent HUGE boxes to their partner and used UPS and got some good prices on shipping.

Flat Rate Boxes can be ordered free of charge from the usps here: http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductCategoryDisplay?catalogId=10152&storeId=10001&categoryId=13359&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=11820&top_category=11820

And if you are curious about the other shipping prices for regular priority/1st class/international you can calculate postage here: http://www.usps.com/tools/calculatepostage/welcome.htm?from=home&page=0061calculatepostage

6. I highly recommend that each of you put together a WIST. A WIST is a huge help for your swap partner. They get to look through all the things you have put into it to get a fell for what you like. Visit WISTS.com for more info.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your packages and other details about participating in a swap.

To join this swap you MUST:
--Have at least 15 posts under your belt.
--Have been a Member of Craftster for AT LEAST one month.
--Have NEVER been in a swap on Craftster before.
--Not be participating any other swaps at this time.

THERE IS A LOT OF INFORMATION LISTED BELOW; PLEASE READ ALL OF IT VERY CAREFULLY!!

Details of swap:
Heres the deal:  I know that there are a lot of you who think that swapping sounds like fun, youre tempted to try, but then, you chicken out.  You think, what if my crafting isnt as good as my partners?  What if I screw up?  What if I dont understand how to do this no matter how many times Ive read the swapping guidelines?  So many what ifs!  This is your opportunity to get your feet wet in the swapping pool with folks that are in the same boat!  This is your chance to ask all of the questions that youve ever needed answers to! Everyone will be brand new swappers, so no one should feel like they are asking silly questions or feel like they don't have enough experience. Some really amazing things came from the previous newbie swaps and some new friends were made.  So, come on inthe waters fine!  I will be your guide through the world of swapping.  If you have any questions or concerns throughout this swap, please PM me or post in the forum!  There are some rules that must be followed in order to have an optimal swapping experience.  Some are Craftsters rules, some are mine! If you feel that you cannot abide by the rules of this swap please don't join!!

Here are my rules:
1.YOU MUST POST IN THIS SWAP THREAD AFTER YOU SEND ME YOUR QUESTIONAIRE PM IN ORDER TO BE ACCEPTED. BEING ACCEPTED IN THE SWAP IS CONTINGENT ON ME SEEING A POST!

2.YOU MUST POST AT LEAST 2 TIMES A WEEK IN THE THREAD.  IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, YOU WILL RECEIVE THE COMMENT POOR COMMUNICATION IN YOUR PROFILE.  FOR A THREE WEEK CRAFTINGTIME, THIS IS ONLY 6 POSTS!!!  EVEN AFTER CRAFTING TIME IS OVER, AND WE MOVE INTO GALLERY TIME YOU NEED TO CONTINUE TO PARTICIPATENO COMMUNICATION = NERVOUS PARTNERS AND ORGANIZER!!!  YOU ARE RELEASED FROM YOUR COMMUNICATION OBLIGATION ONLY AFTER BOTH YOU AND YOUR PARTNER HAVE SENT AND RECEIVED!!!

3.YOU MUST COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR PARTNER.  IF YOUR PARTNER CONTACTS ME AND SAYS THAT YOU ARE NOT COMMUNICATING WITH THEM, YOU WLL ALSO RECEIVE THE COMMENT POOR COMMUNICATION IN YOUR PROFILE.

4.IF I GET THE FEELING THAT SOMEONE MAY BE A FLAKER, I WILL NOT ALLOW THEIR PARTNER TO SEND UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN SENT TO AND RECEIVED!!!

5.WHEN YOU SEND YOUR PM TO JOIN THE SWAP, IF ALL OF YOUR POSTS ON CRAFTSTER CONSIST OF ONLY NICE JOB, GREAT, AND THEY SHOW NO ACTUAL PARTICIPATION IN THE CRAFTSTER FORUM, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE!

6.MOST IMPORTANTLY:  IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO PARTICIPATE ONLINE, COMMUICATE WITH YOUR PARTNER, AND/OR CRAFT, PLEASE DO NOT JOIN!!!  THIS MAY SOUND HORRIBLE, BUT I HAVE SEEN TOO MANY FIRST-TIME SWAPPERS GET HOSED BY THEIR PARTNERS AND THAT LEAVES A TERRIBLE TASTE IN SOMEONES MOUTH!!!

7. When sending me PMs please put NEWBIES ONLY SWAP 10 in the subject line!

8. Once partners are posted EVERYONE must post a BIO of themselves in the thread! This is MANDATORY!!! 3 sentences MINIMUM! This is to help everyone get acquainted with the other swappers and with being an active member in the thread. No personal information needs to be divulged. so please try not to include your AGE, the LOCATION where you live and any other super private info.

9.Keep in regular contact with your swapping partner!!!  Some people end up talking more than others, but even if you dont become fast friends with your partner, check in with them so that they dont think youve fallen off the face of the earth.  Let them know that youre working on their crafts.  And, most importantly, the more you talk, the more youll get to know what they like!

FEEDBACK:
To ensure that no one drops off the face of the swapping earth.... I will NOT be giving feedback until these 2 things have taken place:
1. YOU have sent and YOUR PARTNER has received
2. YOUR PARTNER has sent and YOU have received

I am pretty good about updating feedback daily, so if both those things have taken place and I have not given you your feedback, please shoot me a reminder and I will get it taken care of ASAP.

Now, Craftsters swapping rules:
1.YOU MUST PM ME AND YOUR PARTNER WHEN YOU SEND AND WHEN YOU RECEIVE.  IF YOU ARE SENDING WITHIN YOUR OWN COUNTRY, YOU MUST HAVE A DC# (DELIVERY CONFIRMATION NUMBER)THEY COST AN EXTRA $.65-$.70 IN THE US.  WHEN  YOU PM TO SAY YOU HAVE SENT, BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR DC NUMBER.
IF YOU ARE SENDING OUT OF YOUR COUNTRY, YOU MUST OBTAIN A RECEIPT AND SEND ME A SCAN/PICTURE OF IT AS PROOF OF SHIPPING!!!

2.When you receive your swap package, you will then need to post in the gallery that will be created so that you can show off what you have received.  Posting pictures is a requirement for this swap! If you dont have a digital camera and cannot get access to one, please ask your partner to take pictures before they send.
**********************************************

The crafting requirements:
Lets do 1 Medium item and 3 small items (you may do a variation of this1 large and 2 small, 2 medium and 1 small, etc.). The terms large, medium, and small are all relative.  I like to look at them from a time standpointLarge=3 or more hours, Medium=2-3 hours, and a Small being 2 hours or less.
This is so important: IF YOU ARE GOING TO SEND MORE THAN THE REQUIRED AMOUNT, PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR PARTNER FIRST!!!  IF YOU AGREE TO SEND EACH OTHER MORE THAN THIS, FINE!

And again, ask any questionthere is no question that has been asked so many times that it cant be asked again! And just a reminder, I WILL NOT be crafting in this swap unless it becomes necessary for me to be a Swap Angel!  Im here to organize and guide!

One more thing.keep in mind when filling out the questionnaire that the more flexible you are about what you receive, the easier it is to pair you up!  Personally, I like to allow my swap partners the flexibility to craft the things they love to craftwhile keeping in mind my tastes.  Also, please do not ask for items that are completely out of the realm of possibilityyour partner is not going to knit you a sweater in three weeks, and if you give them no other ideas, its going to be difficult to figure out what to craft you!  Also, I do believe that mentions of anything that can be perceived as controversial (i.e. religion, politics, etc.) should be left out of your questionnaire UNLESS it pertains to what you can/cant receive from someone.  Then, AND ONLY THEN, it should be stated in this way:  Due to religious, political, personal beliefs, I do not want to receive anything that is (fill in the blank).  ***********************************************

If you want to participate, please send this information to the organizer:

20  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Rainbow Butterfly Wing Cane Jewelry- PIC HEAVY on: July 07, 2008 02:27:03 PM
I don't make canes very often but I did one for a component for one of the swaps I am in  and since you can do SO much with the cane slices, I went a bit crazy and made some jewelry pieces. Smiley

Butterfly pendant: 1 1/4" tall, almost 1 3/4" wide

Butterfly pin/brooch: (has a bar pin back glued to the back) 1 1/2" tall, 1 3/4" wide

Butterfly wing earrings: wings are 3/4" tall, 1/2" wide

Everything all together:
