Add sliced banana, too! We have a food truck in Chicago that makes nutella & banana empanadas...so yummy!
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Japanese Festival of Broken Needles on: February 08, 2011 04:33:50 PM
Just thought I'd share a bit of information that I learned. February 8 is Hari-Kuyo, the Festival of Broken Needles. A day to thank our needles for the work they've given us. The needles are rested into blocks of soft tofu to give their souls a rest for their hard work.

Just something neat that I'd thought would be cool to share.

If you're interested, here are a few pictures and some history behind this
ancient Shinto rite.

I hate the illustrations, too! So unreal expectations.

Thanks for the tips! Especially the elastic and the hang with two buttons.

I looked through my stash and found a pink version of your fabric! LOL I was going to use it as an apron..pink gingham with cherries might be too bright for a dress.

This is great! So glad you posted a pic; I have the same pattern, but haven't made it, yet.
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Fleece naptime pillows on: September 25, 2010 04:58:05 PM
My nephew needed a pillow for naptime at pre-school. He loves fleece, so I had to make it out of fleece for him. And because things can be yucky on the floor, my SIL asked for a removable/washable cover. I made a cover for each school day and an extra in case Mommy gets behind in the wash.

I was able to find most of his favorite characters -- yay! (Score points for auntie!)

I hadn't sewn a lot of fleece, so I learned a lot in doing this project. If you want to see more pictures and find my list of tips, visit my blog. http://sewchicago.wordpress.com/2010/09/25/the-polar-express-comes-through-my-sewing-room/

Very cute! Looks great and your modifications are great to keep everything together...no lost pillow!
7  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Free Witch Hat and Witch Hat Fascinator pattern on: September 20, 2010 03:46:05 PM
Just learned from HotPatterns' Facebook page that they're offering a free Good Witch/Bad Witch pattern via www.Fabrics.com. This will be available to download on Wednesday.

Looks cute!

But, it's just the hat...no dress. When I commented to HotPatterns that it's too bad that it's just the hat, they replied "It's free!", then deleted my comment and their reply. Kinda not nice.

But, the hat is still cute.

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Lengthening dress with pleated trim on: August 19, 2010 01:31:45 PM
Full disclosure: I did not make this dress or the modification. This is a dress that a member of my ASG (American Sewing Guild) group did to lengthen her dress. She got the idea after the group went to a local trim shop to learn embellishments.

She used guides to make her pleats.

For step-by-step instructions, read her blog post, http://sewchicago.wordpress.com/2010/08/18/embellish-this-2/

I think she did a fabulous job!
9  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Show me your sewing room setup! on: August 19, 2010 12:50:35 PM
My sewing "room" is a closet. I mounted a folding laundry table to the wall to become my sewing table. Then, moved everything up on the shelves to try to give myself some working room. This closet is 5' x 5-1/2'.

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: I made myself a summer dress. Simplicity 3823 on: June 22, 2010 10:34:42 PM
Wow! Three years later and this pattern is still around! And it still looks good. I bet you're still wearing your dress.

I made this dress for The Glass Slipper Project in Chicago, which distributes prom dresses to girls in the area. This was an easy dress to make, although I made some slight changes.

More pics and my blog post (http://sewchicago.wordpress.com/2010/06/21/im-in-love-with-embellishments/) about this fun and flirty dress.

I also made the dress two more times for myself. I had two weddings over Memorial Day weekend. Will add pics when I take some of the dresses themselves.
