Hope you like it, I would love your opinions.

3  Fascinators - An Adventure in Millinery in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Lindsay Loo Brush on: August 03, 2010 01:47:04 PM
Hi all, been a while since I was on here, but I have been snowed under with my Fashion Design course. Lots of exciting things have been happening for me, but I thought I would post about my most exciting and personal...

I have been quietly and patiently teaching myself (with a little bit of outside help) the lesser practised art of Millinery or Hat making.

I have always loved hats, and head wear, most people who know me well, know that if i can wear something fancy in my hair, I will.

Since I began my fashion design journey, I have sometimes felt that I was missing my "calling". I do love making clothes, but I also struggle with it a little bit. I thought hat making was something that a regular person wasn't able to do. How wrong I was! A friend suggested that this might be where my heart lay and the rest is history!

A lot of research and practise later, I'm so happy to introduce my first small collection of millinery pieces. I'm still experimenting with different styles, materials and techniques, but I feel utterly fulfilled doing this.

Millinery seems to fit me so well. I feel confident wearing my own pieces, I feel like "me", like I finally found myself. That sounds a bit weird, but I have been a bit lost recently and this has made me realise that I am good at something.

After uploading some photos to Facebook, I was contacted by a fellow designer to collaborate on a project for Houston's first Fashion Week, later this year, and I'm thrilled. It feels like confirmation that I'm on the right path.

I'm looking forward to sharing my progress with you, so keep watching!  Smiley

I'd love some opinions on my work.. Smiley I have lots more pieces I could post, but don't want to post too many on my first Post for a while..

Lindsay

4  The Quilt I Swore I'd Never Make in Quilting: Completed Projects by Lindsay Loo Brush on: August 01, 2008 08:26:07 AM
I always swore I would never quilt..I never found a pattern I liked, and I just didnt really "get" them.

Recently, after losing my patience with trying to fit my insane body I needed something to help me chill out and relax a little. I decided that straight lines were the way forward..

Not perfect, but not bad for my first time.

5  Japanese Knot Bag in Purple Silk Shot Taffata in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Lindsay Loo Brush on: June 22, 2008 07:32:01 PM
I came across a tutorial today for this cute bag at Whipup

The bag is a lovely size, and shape and perfect for a night out. The longer handle slips through the shorter handle and the resulting loop slips onto your wrist.

I made it it some fabric I had hanging about, but
am planning on making a few more, in more evening colours.

The outer material is a purple shot silk taffata, and the inner fabric is a purple cotton print..(with stars).

7  McCall's 5591 - Kickass Skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Lindsay Loo Brush on: May 06, 2008 04:28:36 PM
I love the finished result, and sewing it was mostly a dream (except when the zipper broke after I had finished.)

Still, I managed to repair it, and the finished skirt is great.

You can see more pics, and read the drama on my blog

8  Re: More bags from me in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Lindsay Loo Brush on: May 01, 2008 06:52:46 PM
Thanks all

They were based on some prototype patterns I knocked together earlier this week

The Prototype

The refined version

Slouchy bags are a dime a dozen, and I know I haven't reinvented the wheel or anything, but I really love the second bag. Its a great size, a great shape, and even though I was stash busting, the fabric came out pretty good too.

Let me know what you think, and thanks to previous slouchy-bag-makers who have inspired me.
