4  Re: I *heart* the library swap gallery in The Swap Gallery by aussie_patches on: June 06, 2007 02:36:25 AM
I am so happy with the package I received from my swap partner.  I just wanted to say a huge apology to Becca (rebaccavoy) because I should have posted this last Friday!!!  Sadly, life got in the way the last few days.  Anyway, the wonderful items I received were -

Sketch book with a protective cover
Hollow book stashed with goodies
Book Cozy with a pen & notebook
Jewellery Set - pearls of wisdom bracelet & earrings
Bookmarks
CD
Library Rules

I'm going to put more detail of all of the items in my blog shortly if anyone is interested.  Otherwise this is going to be a very... long... post!  I LOVE MY ITEMS and believe me I could go on for days!  Here are a few of the pictures I've taken.

5  Girl, cloud & soda pop cushions - image heavy in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by aussie_patches on: May 20, 2007 08:29:55 AM
Today I'm sick.  I've got a touch of the flu, so I locked myself away in my sewing room and came up with these lovely cushions.  I just wanted to share them with you all.  xox

The first two I tried were a couple of days ago and I wanted them to be shaped.  The first one is called Mandy. She is machine stitched on calico.  The second one is Sally. She is applique and machine stitching with fabric paint detail.

Then I wanted to do something bigger then the first two.  This one is called Sandy.  She is fabric crayon on calico, appliqued to an apple print cotton fabric.  The trees are felt and suede applique with button details.  Oh - and she has a metallic flower in her hair. Smiley  She is the size of a standard pillowcase.

Kara is another one I created.  She is created with machine stitching on calico appliqued onto a bright circle print fabric.

The next one I've called "Taking the cloud for a walk".  It was completely machine stitched from my imagination.

The last one is called "Who took a bit out of my soda pop-pop?"  It is applique of felt and textured fabric wallpaper on a bright cotton print.

So, what do you think?

6  Illustrations on Patterned Paper - Image Heavy in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by aussie_patches on: May 09, 2007 10:03:10 AM
Lately I've been working on images drawn straight onto textured wallpaper.  I've mixed up the experiment a little further with these illustrations I've created this past week.  I wanted to try and keep the wallpaper effect but considering the huge cost of printed wallpaper, I've used printed scrapbooking paper instead.

My girls were all created over various nights, and I'm quite please they stayed similar to another.  The mediums are ink and coloured pencil with a little bit of chinagraph, marker or collage.  I hope you like them! xox

7  An ode to the veronica's in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by aussie_patches on: April 27, 2007 10:09:41 AM
This was inspired by a picture of one of The Veronica's.  I used a graphite 4b pencil on graph paper.

8  Charcoal and Pencil Studies in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by aussie_patches on: April 24, 2007 06:40:01 AM
These are a few different studies I've been working on.  These are pencil,

The next one is of a glass swan.  I was trying to attempt capturing the opacity of it.

This one is a mixed media work of charcoal, conte, ink and paper.  It is a part of a project I am working on where I have a book (my subject is Diving) and I am recreating it into an item of art using the subject as the influence.

9  Large mixed media 'quiet sombre girl' illustration in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by aussie_patches on: April 24, 2007 06:28:44 AM
While I'm still drawing figures, I decided to do a mixed media illustration.  This is marker and acrylic paint on cardboard.

10  Girl Illustrations on Wallpaper in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by aussie_patches on: April 24, 2007 06:26:14 AM
I wanted to be different and try some different surfaces to illustrate on and I found some textured wallpaper that I collected years ago.  I'm really happy with how these images turned out.  These works are done in marker.

I want to keep working this way for a while, and maybe do some prints of my favourite peices to sell.  It's something I'm looking at as a long term goal.  For the moment I'm just having fun.
