12  Third Butterfly - check! in Knitting: Completed Projects by juniperl13 on: April 24, 2006 12:56:09 AM
I have yarn for a minimum of 6 Butterfly camisoles and love the crap out of the pattern, so I've been finding excuses to make more of them.

The first, of course, was for me.

And then my friend's birthday was looming and she loved my Butterfly, so next was one for her.

Realizing that I could crank one of these out in a couple of weeks, I decided that my mother, my own personal butterfly, needed one of these for Her birthday, and so the third Butterfly was born.

My mother is one of those classic redheads that actually looks fabulous in oranges and browns and greens. She already owns plenty of green and brown, so a sunset sort of colour was the obvious choice. I was kind of bored with single colours, however, so I threw some vivid pumpkin in there as well. That turned out to be a bit Too vivid, which led to the idea of the double-stranded frill and picot edging. I also like that double-stranding the straps made them a bit sturdier.

13  Re: Mother's Day 2006 KAL in Knitalongs by juniperl13 on: April 23, 2006 02:57:16 PM
PHEW! I finally finished my mother's present. Hopefully I can next-day mail it to her tomorrow, because her birthday is on the 25th and I don't want this to be late.

This is a combination mother's day and birthday present, in case you were wondering.

Oh right, pictures.

Sorry, that was sort of a lot.

Okay, my mother's birthday is at the end of the month and she's been making noise about me not yet knitting anything big for her, so I'd like to make her a Butterfly.

I just need help picking the colour(s).

Because she's very much a classic redhead I was thinking one of the more orangey colours. I have a full 800 yards of the lighter 2 and closer to 400 of the brown, which is probably still enough for a Butterfly.

Pinkmafia sent me roving!!!

I know exactly what I'm going to do with some of the fuschia and there's enough wool in my stash to make even more stuff to felt designs onto! Now I just need to practice a bit before I go and ruin my FOs.

Thank you, pinkmafia.  Grin

Yay! My best friend/radness advisor received her Butterfly, so now I can post it!

It went so much faster than my first one. It helps that the pattern is more or less in my head now. Oh, and I loved the tiny crochet hook method of attaching the beads. It saved me a lot of effort and yarn damage in the end.

I learned a bit from my first one and made this one shorter and a bit larger in the chest (my friend is proportioned much like me, so, boobage). I'm pretty sure I started and ended the body with....75....stitches. Yeah, that sounds right. I also used a much smaller needle for the $*^%ing picot bind-offs and OO! OO! OO! I taught myself how to knit backwards for the straps! They went a lot faster without all that needle switching after every row. I'll post a more in-depth entry about it on my blog later today.
