1  New Henna in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by firstlove on: August 15, 2009 08:52:20 PM
In celebration of my significant other arriving tomorrow, I've done some henna!
I did it last night, and after doing some chores around the house, I found I needed to retouch my fingertips, which is why the paste is on them in the following pictures. The pattern on the palm is from hennapage.com, with the rest improvised.

I used powder, mixed it with warm hibiscus tea and about two tablespoons of sugar, then added lemon juice until it was at a creamy consistency, waiting until the next day to use it.

2  Two new hennas + my current recipe [with pictures] in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by firstlove on: April 30, 2009 05:25:29 PM
These two are my most recent henna attempts using the same paste recipe, in chronological order:

(sorry for the blurriness)

I put several tablespoons of henna powder in a bowl, and added lemon juice until it was all consistently moistened, then added a little less than a teaspoon of brown sugar (what I happened to have in my dorm at the time). I then added lemon juice until it was at a honey-like consistency. Then I put it in the microwave for about 15 seconds, let it sit overnight, put it in cones, and then applied it. The second was done with a more thinly-rolled cone, which made it easier to make the thinner lines.

edited to add: I also did an Ohm symbol on my beau's hand, but he's to busy playing the piano right now to let me get a picture!

3  Hat and iPhone Case in Knitting: Completed Projects by firstlove on: March 22, 2009 05:09:40 PM
With midterms and spring break I haven't had time to picture or post my recent projects, so here's several:

This beanie was made using the N.u.a.g.e Pattern by Marie Sauvagnac

I improvised a pattern for an iPhone case based on the gauge of the yarn and needles I happened to have on me while at my boyfriend's house:

4  My First Henna in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by firstlove on: March 16, 2009 07:57:58 PM
I recently traded for some henna at a local Rainbow Gathering, and looked up patterns at hennapage.com for inspiration, but still tried to do something different. The tip of the mylar cone I tried to roll was way too wide to make a thin line, and I totally should have sifted the powder before mixing it, but I know for next time.

Here's what I did (inspired by the North African series of patterns):

5  Re: Show Off Your Hair! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by firstlove on: February 21, 2009 02:00:28 PM
Well, I've gone through various hair incarnations, but to begin I started growing out my hair at the end of my freshman year of high school.

At the end of my senior year, it was this long:

In the fall, my first semester of college, I dyed my hair for the first time! I went from blue to purple to turquoise, sometimes a mix of the three!

I then had my hair cut very short (think Keira Knightley in Domino).
