Everyone's blocks are lovely!!!  I'm currently on vacation for a week so obviously no blocks getting done this week.  I'm hoping to get mine finished the first week of September before school starts again and I become a crazy woman!!!

I agree with rangerbeth---I'm not offended and we do have to acknowledge the past and present of each state.  It's one of the nifty things about America---the diversity of beliefs and ideas.

Okay, I'm going to go sing the national anthem or something!!!!  I'm so excited to get to see all of the blocks together!!!

I can tell the difference.  The PA fabric has an Amish person and a covered bridge---very PA where as the ND fabric is more of a farming motif.  I like them both!!

I think I'm going to put them all together in one quilt somehow.  I like the idea of a nice big quilt.  Not sure on the order or anything but we'll see.  I actually already bought my fabric for the back...I used a picture of it on the very first post for signups.  It has all the states and thier names.

Where did you get that fabric?  It's awesome!

This is such a great quilt!  I love your fabric choices and quilting.  I really want to make one of these quilts myself!

Wow, that's a great idea for the blocks!  I thought immediately that I would piece the blocks in the order they joined the union.  I could also do it alphabetically or by the size of each state.  And for the backing, I thought to use either a flag patterned fabric or piece together red, white, and blue to make a big flag for the back.

I love the idea of putting them in order of when they joined the union.  I think I might steal donniesgirl's idea of putting the date the state entered the union as well as the state name on each block.  Now I just have to figure out how I want to do that when the time comes!

Magadoo- I totally agree that if we were making all 50 states on our own it would be crazy expensive and generally complicated trying to keep track of 100-150 different types of fabric!  That's why this swap is so wonderful!!!

My plan is to not actually make one quilt from the blocks.  I'm a Social Studies teacher and what I was thinking about doing is sewing together 10 groups of 5 blocks and making mini quilts from them.  Then I'm going to display them in my classroom so that my students can see the different representations of each state.  I'm thinking it will be pretty and a teaching tool all in one!
