1  Plastic Canvas Big Bang Theory Tissue Cover in Needlework: Completed Projects by Casstasstrophe on: April 18, 2012 03:09:55 PM
I know that plastic canvas isn't a really popular medium, but I LOVE it! I was introduced a few years ago and became immediately hooked. It's so versatile as an architectural tool. You can make almost anything your brain can conjure up. I've recently made a ton of tissue box covers (because you know, tissue boxes are ugly). For the Big Bang Theory swap I made this tissue paper cover for my swap partner. It's one of my most favorite projects ever. I wanted to share with you guys

2  Re: AND It all Started with the BIG BANG THEORY SWAP!!!! GALLERY in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by Casstasstrophe on: April 06, 2012 06:18:36 AM
My partner thesillyseestress received last week but she's in the middle of a move and said it was cool if I posted pictures of what I sent.

I've really fallen in love with plastic canvas as a medium. The architectural qualities and 3-D possibilities are endless. I've made a few tissue covers over the years but this one is my favorite!

From the back you can see their heads peaking over the top

And I made a Bazinga paper cutout and decoupaged it to a piece of plywood. I just happened to have enough material to make two so the other one is proudly sitting in my own craftroom!

I received my awesome package from thesillyseemstress last week and I finally found a time where I was at home during natural lighting so that I could take some pictures.

First off the fantastic Soft Kitty Embroidery hoop!

Next I got a hot chocolate mug with a hand written Sheldon Cooper quote. The quote reads, "I'm in such a good mood, I'm actually finding your tenuous grasp of the English language folksy and charming today." Signed by Sheldon Cooper B.S. M.S. M.A. Ph. D. Sc. D . . . OMG right? Too funny! Love it.

My favorite has to be the Bazinga tea mug! It's so whimsicaly awesome! I wish I had her free hand skills.

Anybody know the best way to seal these mugs so that I can put them in the dishwasher? Or should I just suck it up and hand wash?

In addition, I also received some hot chocolate mix and tea as well as some lemonade Mike and Ikes and M&Ms!

Thanks so much Lisa, I hope you loved everything I sent you as much as I enjoyed your package!

4  Re: OTT Game of Thrones Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Casstasstrophe on: September 09, 2011 02:48:33 PM
Yay! I received my package from Hoboe and I'm so excited to post!

Behold, Sansa and Arya. Hoboe has some mad Amigurumi skillz

Closeup of Sansa with her pearl necklace. I immediately recognized her when I pulled her out of the box.

Closeup of Arya with Needle.

Needle is a real needle.

I'm in love with their hair. So soft and perfect.

Bonus upskirt shot of Sansa. Of course a real lady would never show us up her skirt.

I am in love with these two gals. Thank you so much Hoboe.

Yay! I'm glad everything got to you in tact Hoboe! I can't wait to see what you sent.

Including some close ups of the paper cuts and necklace. I'm seriously working on crests for all the major houses!

And the necklace! I debated whether I should send this or not because I wasn't sure my partner would like it. I liked it so much that I figured I send it anyway.

I had FUN!!

6  Owly Tissue Paper Cover in Needlework: Completed Projects by Casstasstrophe on: July 21, 2011 02:26:01 PM
I've made a few of these tissue paper covers by cross stitching with yarn on the plastic canvas. They're fun to make but kind of take forever. About 4 hours per panel and then another 4 hours to stitch the top and then whipstitch the whole thing together.

Made for my swap partner in the Owl swap! Four owls which differ only by the yarn color choices.

I received an awesomely amazing package from PosiTori yesterday. Everything is perfectly adorable and suits me to a tee. PosiTori did a perfect job of crafting for me.

First up is a group shot of all of the goodies in my package:

Close up of the most adorable Ami Owl I have ever seen. I've named him Pidgeon. He sits atop my bookshelf to watch over my craft area (at night of course because he sleeps during the day)

A super sweet plaque made from decoupaged paper cutouts mounted on a piece of plywood. It's super amazing and I have a place for it on my nightstand next to my bed.

And last but not least, a super cute keychain made from an original owl image created by PosiTori. It's on my keys right now!

This swap was super fun and I absolutely love everything I received. Now I'm totally worried about what my partner is going to think about what I sent her.

Thanks a million PosiTori!

8  Pimp my Terrarium swap in New Swap Theme Ideas by Casstasstrophe on: July 12, 2011 02:29:17 PM

Image from Janit's etsy shop found here http://www.etsy.com/listing/50120163/miniature-garden-antique-gazing-balls

So Terrariums are huge right now and I thought maybe a Pimp my Terrarium type swap would be fun. Right now I'm thinking that the only items swapped would be miniature scene elements and no one would be sending the actual terrarium and plants.

I know that there could be huge limitations to this type of swap (like it's kind of limited to clay sculpy) but fun nonetheless.

So, any thoughts? Would anyone be interested in this?

9  I busted out my knitting needles in 2010 in Knitting: Completed Projects by Casstasstrophe on: March 20, 2011 10:31:46 AM

Well, it seems as though Spring time is here so, before I put all of my winter goodies away, I wanted to photo document my winter 2010 knitting projects.

The infamous OWLS sweater, the infamous Bella's mittens, and a plain old butterfly stitch hat.

The only mod I did on this sweater was to make the cuffs longer and add thumb holes. Really nice for my chilly office. If I don't want the fingerless mits feature, I can just fold the cuffs up.

If I had to do anything different, I think that next time I would make the decreases on the side instead of in the back. Also, I used Knit Picks Swish  Worsted Yarn in 100% Superwash Marino. It was very reasonably priced but WOW does it pill. I have to shave it every three wearings and contrary to the "super wash" tag, it is NOT washable.

I made Bella's mittens (like everyone else in the world) not because i'm a Twilight fan but because I truly love the pattern.

Again I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes and again, I wish I hadn't. Too bad I have a hole tub full of this stuff.

my least favorite project of the season but it did the job.

Conclusion: I was very warm and toasty this winter!

I have a matching scarf on the needles right now to be completed sometime in 2011

10  Can't stop knitting Perdita in Knitting: Completed Projects by Casstasstrophe on: August 22, 2010 12:30:36 PM

So, a few months ago I ran across the Perdita pattern on Knitty.com and I fell in love!

http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer06/PATTperdita.html

These are the first three I've made.

They were sooooo pretty and so easy to make! Took about an afternoon to make each one!

Have two more which are off the needles and just waiting to be blocked and finished. I also have two more on the needles and just waiting for finishing. I think I know what every woman on my Christmas list is going to get!
