1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Maxi Dress Mission - Dress 1 - Tribal Maxi on: May 09, 2011 02:02:35 AM
BabyGirlBling - I used a jersey knit I found on sale for ridiculously cheap.  This dress probably cost me less than 4 dollars to make.

blondgirll - I drafted my own pattern for this dress.  I took a class at the Fashion Institute of Technology on how to draft my own patterns specific for my measurements, was awesome!

It is indeed a mancala game as PernesePhoenix said.

I have started a Maxi-Mission.  I want to wear nothing but maxi dresses this summer.. I've got a lot of sewing in my future.

I based this dress off one I saw on Urbanoutfitters.com that was roughly 250$.  Here's a link to it: http://images.urbanoutfitters.com/is/image/UrbanOutfitters/18862417_036_b?$detailmain$

It's a bit more distressed looking and obviously the holes cut into it, I am thinking about doing that but don't want to perhaps ruin the dress.  Opinions and comments on this would be great.

Back - I tied the racerback with a tiny piece of scrap fabric, I think it looks pretty neat like this so I may sew it into place.

Again, comments on going for the more distressed look would be greatly appreciated!

I recently picked sewing back up, after a year or so break.  I fell in love with maxi dresses because they are so simple to throw on and you're ready with a couple accessories.  I have so many clothes that it often takes me forever to match a top with bottoms, thus why maxi dresses make my routine much quicker haha.

Thanks soo much for the advice High.  I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.  You are my savior! I think I may try to do the hook and eyes on the top strap, as well as the criss cross straps.  Hopefully that will work out.  I'll also add a zipper on the back end haha, I was thinking that was where it should go, but wasn't positive.  I've never made a dress before, so wish me luck!  Also, you wouldn't happen to have a front view of the dress?
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Backless Formal Dress Questions on: January 23, 2009 06:22:03 PM
I am in love with this dress:

But I am baffled on how to go about making it.  The front seems simple enough, but how would you make the back straps?  Would it have to be an elastic type of material so it stays up? Could I maybe use hook and eyes somehow?  Also, do you think it would need a zipper.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I'm at a loss here!
