1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Looking for vintage reproduction halter dress pattern on: July 27, 2008 08:14:38 PM
I'm hoping that someone on here remembers this dress pattern that I just have to find.  I know it was made by one of the big 4 pattern companies sometime around 2000-2002.  It is a reproduction from a 40s or 50s button down halter dress.  I tried googling it but haven't found it.  It was out of print by early 2003 at the latest.  For the life of me I cannot remember the pattern number or who made it.  I'm 99.9 % sure that it was Butterick. TIA!
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Does anyone have the free download of Hotpatterns Nairobi bag? on: July 11, 2008 10:10:50 PM
I saw a review of this bag online and fell in love with it.  Unfortunately Hotpatterns offered it as a free download quite awhile ago and I've just discovered their patterns recently.  I would love to have a copy if anyone still has it.  Thanks so much Smiley
3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Crafter Public Service Announcement on: March 13, 2008 07:58:15 PM
I'm sorry if this is off topic but I wanted to relate a situation that I would like to spare my fellow Crafsters from.  Basically, I was swindled out of $240 by a fellow crafter from one of my Yahoo groups.  She was offering to sell several volumes of the vintage sewing pattern books that I collect and stupidly I sent a check.  Not only have I not received anything, but I believe those same items are listed on Ebay.

What I'm saying is that there are people who give crafters a bad name and ruin it for the rest of us who are honest.  Please do not send anyone money that you do not know or buy anything from a place that you are not protected.  I knew this but I fell for it anyway. If anyone has any ideas about how I could recoup my money, I would be grateful.  Don't let yourself be disllusioned like I am.
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / 50's Valentine's Day shirt on: February 12, 2008 05:03:39 PM
Another vintage pattern, modern fabric shirt.  The last button is a little wonky but overall I'm very pleased with how it came out.  There are no hearts per se but the fabric colors and the candy pattern scream Valentine's Day to me.
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / "Vintage" Skull Shirt on: February 12, 2008 05:01:42 PM
The word "vintage" is in quotation marks because I'm pretty sure that there weren't any ladies' skull shirts around back in the 50's.  But there should have been!  The pattern I made this from is authentically 50's.  The fabric, not so much.
6  New York / New York: NYC and Long Island / NYC Craft Supply Store on: January 29, 2008 05:57:32 PM
Perhaps this has been mentioned before but I didn't see anything posted.  I just discovered a store, which on retrospect I should have thought of ages ago.  There's a bookstore/supply store right next to FIT which has a great general selection of crafting items and professional books.  I bought a design book which I guess is a class textbook but they have a whole room of pattern making materials, thread, and assorted notions.  Granted Joanns has more but as we all know that there isn't one here, I found this place to be very convenient.  I don't know the name but it's located on 27th and 8th.
7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / NY Hardcore Brass Knuckle Bag on: December 20, 2006 12:04:15 PM
The upside of getting laid off from work right before the holidays is that I have plenty of time for crafting.  After I finished making gifts, I made myself this tote.
8  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Lucky Cat luggage tag on: September 02, 2006 11:10:41 AM
I wanted to think of alternative uses for embroidery besides the usual pillowcase, tea towel, etc..  Plus I travel alot, so I thought this would be cute and practical.  I embroidered my name, address and phone number on the back.
9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Tattooed baby onesie on: September 02, 2006 11:08:01 AM
I've recently connected with an old friend and found out that his wife is due to give birth any day now.  Of course I couldn't let this opportunity pass by.  A little background info:  my friend is currently the singer in a punk band and used to sing for an old school NY hardcore band.  They've been calling the as yet unborn baby "Spike" so I figured since all good hardcore boys have the old english tattoo on their stomachs, baby Spike should have one as well.

And I couldn't forget about mom, so....
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Setting rhinestones on: July 07, 2006 01:09:27 PM
I've been thinking about adhering swarovski crystals and rhinestones to clothing items and bags.  Have any of you used the hot fix stones with the heating wand?  I'm trying to decide whether glue, bedazzler with the settings or the hot fix crystals would work better and be more durabe.
Thanks Smiley  Cindy
