381  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: Where can I get magnetic purse clasps? on: July 26, 2004 09:27:58 AM
Hancock Fabric carries them in their purse display area

I would check upholstery places.  I think they would be more likely to have it than quilting or stores like Joann.  Maybe you could paint a light colored leather?
383  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Ebay Sewing Machine. on: July 23, 2004 09:00:17 PM
Ordinarily I'd be wary about purchasing anything mechanical off Ebay but it comes with a warranty and they are an authorized dealer so it'll probably be fine.  I'd check their feedback just in case.
384  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Making a Corsety shirt out of a BIG band t-shirt on: July 23, 2004 09:50:55 AM
I can't say for sure why that one is called a corset top since there isn't a pic of the back, but I've seen others like it on Ebay and they have lacing up the back.  I think grommet tape (I'm not sure that's the technical name) was used and then some sort of ribbon is threaded through the holes.
385  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Sealants question and help needed with assorted problems on: July 23, 2004 06:46:03 AM
Maybe try resin, which is this epoxy-like stuff.  I bought mine at A.C. Moore but haven't tried it out yet.  It looks thicker and sturdier than most varnishes.  I just bought a magnetic purse closure at Hancock Fabrics last night.
386  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Work shirts rejuvinated? HELP! on: July 19, 2004 08:39:23 PM
I've doctored work shirts though I'm bigger than you so there's less to eliminate.  I usually start by shortening the shirt and then putting in darts in the back.
387  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: My first finished work in a series of 4 that I'm doing on: July 14, 2004 10:40:36 AM
Oh thank god!  I thought I was the only one with a dirty mind.  I had bought those designs on Ebay and was thinking, "Hmm... they didn't mention that they were X-rated!"
388  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: Revamping a vintage leather handbag on: July 13, 2004 02:36:50 PM
I've been eyeing some really cool painted purses on Ebay.  The artist has used vintage vinyl and leather purses.  I don't know if she sealed them; who knows, maybe the paint will flake off the first time it rains.  They LOOK really cool though.  If I win one, I'll try inspecting it for ideas.
389  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Machine embroidery? on: July 12, 2004 11:47:55 AM
I do machine embroidery.  I have a Viking Iris.  It is most addictive!

I was thinking that maybe it would be easiest to buy a premade one and then recover it.
