2  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Steampunk Vampire Hunter on: March 30, 2008 05:55:58 PM
So last night was the Vampire Ball in PDX, I agreed to help Noxenlux in her vending booth. But we needed outfits. So about 3 months ago we agreed to do a steampunk theme.  Since we were going to a Vampire ball i decided to dress as a vampire hunter.  Here is my version.

http://www.gothfox.com/gallery/steamygf.jpg
Hat is handmade to match the rest of the outfit.  The fabric i got at fabric depot for $1/yd during the summer outdoor sale and had been holding on it for a while.
Jacket is a Vogue pattern minus one arm. (that little jacket was warm too!) http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/V8299.htm?tab=jackets_coats&page=3
The skirt(apron) and Bustle are from a discontinued simplicity costume pattern.
I was on a tight time limit so the bustle and bustle padding were attached by ribbon, I knew i would be wearing a corset and could easily tuck ribbon under it.  Connected to the bustle is about 5 yards of tull, half black and half antique Gold. The gold is shorter than the black.
Vintage Skeleton Keys were bought on ebay, the copper chain was bought at Walmart.
Spats were made from a vintage 1971 simplicity pattern, although I had to do a lot of adjustments since they were designed for skinny legs. Of which i do not have.

My Boyfriend made me a steampunk vampire detector, of course he made is special to fit my arm. It was a group effort of sorts. I did all the detail painting on it while he built the whole thing. lol

We also customized a Nerf Maverick to match the vampire detector.

Here is the holster to match the rest of the outfit

The costume went over very well even though i was down in the dealers room all night.

7  CLOTHING / Shoes: Completed Projects / Blue Glitter Shoes - Mary Jane Heels with Tutorial on: September 22, 2007 09:03:17 AM
So I posted this  in the clothing section with the rest of the outfit but i thought it  might be good to post them in the shoe section.

http://www.gothfox.com/gallery/b-outfit6.jpg

http://www.gothfox.com/gallery/b-outfit7.jpg

You will Need:
1. Small Box
2. Sheet of paper
3. Glitter of choice  (Medium Size Craft Glitter Fine or Xfine are too small and won't sparkle well)
4. Shoes (duh)
5. Craft Glue
6. Mod Podge
7. Acrylic Sealant (paint on type)
8. Sponge brushes
9. Napkins (to get all that glue off your fingers)

So i got a normal pair of Mary Jane heels they were leather so I treated them with Saddle Soap (makes them softer) and let them sit over night. It could have been a few days i don't remember.

-Then get your Small Box, Craft Glue, paper, shoes and get your butt outside

-Once outside pick a spot where you can work and can clean up glitter afterwards. Put the sheet of paper inside the box. The box will help contain any stray glitter and make clean up easy.

-Take your Glue and apply it to the shoes a section at a time with the little sponge brush (or your fingers) which ever. Don't over do it or you will have clumps of glitter when you are done.  Try to make the glue even. Don't worry about little blank spots you can always go back and fill them later.

-Hold Shoe over box and paper and cover liberally with Glitter. Pat the glitter into the glue.

-Now your paper in the box will be covered in glitter, you can now pick up the paper with the glitter on it and put all that extra stuff back into your glitter container for the next round.
Repeat until your shoes are finished.  Fill in any little holes with glue and glitter.  let dry outside and tap on ground to remove extra glitter. The less in your house the better.

-Don't forget to clean your brushes you will need them later.

-Make sure all glue is dry by letting them dry over night.

-Take your Shoes back outside with your Mod Podge , Apply the Mod Podge with the spongy brush until completely Covered. give it a nice thick coat. If it's not thick enough you can reapply after it dries.

-Once fully dry then apply your Acrylic sealant I just got some Generic stuff from Joanns in the paint section.

-Let Dry.

Then Voila! your shoes are done!
Wear them with pride!

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Burlesque Outfit - Sparkly & Feathers! on: September 21, 2007 06:26:35 PM
Ok so i posted some pasties a while back and i'm finally getting around to the rest of the outfit. I guess i'll post it as i complete pieces of it.
General Over view purple side The skirt connects with two snaps and is easily removeable on stage

Flip the Skirt over (It's reversable!!!) I'm also making a matching jacket out of the satin material. So it will be two outfits in one! Sorry about the wrinkles i need to steam it.

Close up of the Bra and Jacket
The Bra is a purple Bra covered in matching purple fabric with crystal beaded trim.

once the skirt comes off i've added a matching shimmy belt 12" peacock fringe (matches the pasties) and Dark purple stretch sequin belt which snaps on.

Feather Headdress Turquoise and Purple Ostrich feathers along with peacock eye and sword feathers (matching purple fabric) this is made from steamed buckram I still need to add the combs to the inside so it holds to my hair.

The Best shoes ever! Blue glitter on top of Black leather mary jane heels. I treated the leather and let it sit over night, then added the glitter the next day. after about a week I covered the shoes in Modge Podge and then a sealant. so the glitter won't go anywhere.

Tell me what you think! i would love to hear any suggestions!
I'm currently working on the Peacock Tail which will be fan shaped and about 35" wide Smiley I just received 200 eye feathers and 100 sword feathers for it. Smiley
