1  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Cheapest/Easiest Last min gift ever-Chocolate Toffee Pieces; "Christmas Crack!" on: December 14, 2010 07:29:13 PM
For those of you having problems:

I've made this twice now. First time it was terrible. The sugar and the butter didn't combine. Second time it turned out perfect. What happened was you do not want it to be at all liquid. You need to make sure all the sugar has dissolved and you want the mixture to be thick while on the stove. Give it time and it will thicken alot. I kept my temperature exactly in the middle of med to high.

Hope this helps!

I received my package from plumbucket today (well it came in yesterday but they tried to deliver while I was at work so had to pick it up today)

Unfortunatly most of what I received is available to me in Canada:

I received:
-An awesome knitted hat
-a mirror

what I can get here:
-twizzlers
-caramel Milk Duds
-original Mike & Ike
-original Skittles
-wild berry Skittles
-hershey's cookies and cream
-Reece's peanut butter big cup
-york peppermint patty
-Rolo

what I can't get here:
-lemon heads
-5th Avenue
-Take5
-Slim Jim
-Now and Later.... I don't know if we can get them here anymore but I know we could when I was in highschool.
-Chick-O-Stick
-Goetze's bullseye caramel

I did read that Hershy has a different recipe between what you can find in Canada and the US. I've tried the Cookies & Cream and Rolo and it was right... there does seem to be a taste difference. I found I do like the Canadian versions better. As for the Big Cup... I didn't notice any taste difference.

Regardless of being able to find most of it here, being able to do the taste difference and receiving the hat definitly made up for it. It's funny because I was going to go winter hat shopping this weekend. I wanted a new one and it's cold here right now.

Hi everyone - I need an angel  Sad
I know it hasn't been two weeks yet, but I'm positive her partner will not be sending. Totally sucks - she kept in contact long enough for her partner to send, then gone. The craftser who was flaked on is in Australia - let me know if anyone is willing - you will get a free year of Friend of Craftster.

I have an idea, if anyone wants to help me out, I'd be willing to send a small package from the U.S. Around 5 - 8 items.  Maybe we could get someone from Canada and the U.K to do small packages as well.  Then they'd get yummy treats from the world.  MXER145, let me know if this would be okay.  I'm more than willing to do the U.S. package.

If you need another person to chip in, I'd be willing.... as long as I can just send snacks (not a craft too). I'm located in Canada

I mailed my end off today on my lunch break from work. My partner is in the US and I am in Canada. It cost me $23 and some odd change and was just shy of 2 pounds. I sent it by normal mail since I was told it would only take 7 business says. The next step up would have been $32 at 4 business says (not much of a difference).

Do you (roughly) know the size of your box?  I know that I've shipped before and was charged 'extra' for having an 'unusual sized box'.  I'm debating on sending everything in a flat rate box, but I'm thinking it's not going to weigh more than 3 lbs... I could be wrong though.

I didn't use a flat rate box. My box was pretty small height wise but long. These are just rough estimates (haha had to whip out a ruler and just guess at it by memory)

In inches
height: 3
length: 14
width: 9 1/2

I did put the box in an oversized bubble envelope (which I taped to size).I don't know if that makes a difference. I doubt it does. I know when calculating my cost the postal worker did use a ruler to measure the size.

For those of you sending snacks from Canada to the US. Have you ever had problems getting it through customs? What did you write as the package contents?
