1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Serenity Necklace on: April 29, 2009 08:53:00 PM
My asian themed necklace with a pendant i made of my favorite stone aventurine wrapped in wire.

A tidbit about aventurine:
According to believers in the power of stones and crystals, Aventurines strongest mental healing characteristic is its ability to ground an individual emotionally, thus allowing for thought that is free of fear, troubled emotions, indecisiveness, and anxiety. This clarity of mind and self confidence that result from wearing this powerful stone energize, inspire, motivate and enhance ones ability to relate to others on an emotional level. It is a stone for leaders, for protectors and counselors; wear it when making critical decisions, when anxious or when feeling overwhelmed by lifes problems and it will amplify your ability to focus and find creative solutions.

Detail of pendant

I don't like the lighting so much in this picture, but I prefer this side of the pendant's wiring.
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Faerie Necklace with Burnt CD Art on: April 28, 2009 01:11:09 PM
burnt cds as in i hold the cds with pliers, put a lighter or torch beneath it with the shiny side up. the metallic foil cracks and changes colors while the plastic of the cd melts and warps. you can do different techniques to make different reactions like just shininess or bubbles or cracks. it's pretty fun. then i cut them up to the shape and size i want. cut them when they're still durable though or it'll break into shards. it's no good. also some cds work and some don't. blank cds work best but even some of those don't work. you have to play around with it. you can't see it very well here, but the final product kind of looks like abalone. be reeeally careful though. it's super easy to hurt yourself in a variety of ways. burns, cuts, sometimes shards can go flying if you don't cut it right, also do it in an open space because plastic burning is not good for your brain cells. (unless you're looking for a funky buzz followed by a big headache.) either way, be careful. i've been doing it for years and i still get at least burnt every time. it's just a sacrifice for something that looks super cool i guess. personally i think it's worth it.

Faerie Necklace with Burnt CD Art! Nuff Said. (The shiny things hanging down, those are the burnt cd's)
Sorry the images are kind of fuzzy. i was using a really crappy camera. Maybe one day i will have one that isn't my cell phone... *sigh*

6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Ductape Purse with Pretty Flower Theme on: January 07, 2007 02:37:15 PM
Awesome! I've wanted to make a wrapping paper purse but I couldn't figure out how to make it strong enough.
And the pressed flowers with the photo are beautiful. Did you put that together yourself?

thanks! well the secret to the purses is the cardboard and ductape. without the combination you are lost. lol. i've never had a problem with it and you should definitely try it. i just started working on a more circular purse, actually, and it's allot easier. i recommend starting with something like that with continuous cardboard for the bottom and sides because the sides are the hardest to do.
and yes, i put it together myself. i think the hydrangea flowers are the best to press for craft endeavors.
good luck  Cheesy

ha, sorry i couldn't decide which picture to use so i just did both.
also the lighting kind of sucks, it's actually lighter than depicted.

it has a cardboard base and then is covered in ductape then put together (also with ductape), and wrapped with, well, wrapping paper. if you can't tell, in the bottom left corner, those are pressed hydrangea flower petals.

by the way, if you're curious, i wanted to fit the quote "to see the world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wildflower, to hold infite in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour" -william blake
unfortunately i couldn't fit it but i figured you might appreciate it anyway.

hope you enjoyed!  Smiley
