21  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Pet Allergies and Vintage Clothing? on: October 04, 2013 06:47:56 AM
I just say that because that's what I did. Until yesterday(!) I handled all of the shipping for the main Craftster Shop. Since I have cats and an office with no door, all the shirts had to be kept in plastic totes to be safe.

I, personally, like the third option.
23  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery on: October 01, 2013 05:17:15 PM
My gallery is completely updated!

This swap has let me know firmly that I am not as great a quilter as I thought.  Tongue I never thought I was great but I thought I did ok until now. I hope my blocks are alright!

Also, I know I'm normally pretty quiet in swap threads, but I feel like I've been much more so during this swap and today I was finally able to post part of the reason why. I've been going through the whole application and interview process for this and trying to figure out transition plans for all my stuff here, as well as finishing up my derby season. So yea, not an excuse, but an explanation of where I'm coming from!  Smiley

We're working on it! Due to my big news, it may end up happening in January. We will definitely let everyone know!
25  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Latest News / 10/01/13 It's not good-bye, it's see you later! jungrrl moving on from Craftster on: October 01, 2013 11:45:17 AM
Is this news? I think so. Maybe you do, too?

I just wanted to let everyone know that I will soon be leaving my job here at Craftster. Actually, my last day will be this Friday.  Embarrassed

On Monday, I'll be starting my new position with the one and only Renegade Craft Fair as their operations manager. I'll be helping run all the day to day stuff and going to all of the fairs, so please feel free to say hi if you find yourself there!!

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to participate on Craftster still although I will stay on as a global moderator. I think once I get past the holiday fair season I'll start peeking my nose back in. (I do have plans to help run another FOC Second Chance swap in January!) Maybe not working on Craftster all day every day will mean I have more time to join discussions in the community and post some projects! A girl can dream, yes?  Wink

Honestly, I've sort of been putting off getting all my feelings about this down into words. Craftster has been my home on the internet for over 9 years and my job/the majority of my waking life for over 5. I love this community more than I could ever put into words and it's helped me become the person I am today. All of the absolutely jaw-dropping creations, all of the shared knowledge, all of the friendliness and general community spirit that comes from everyone here just makes this my absolute favorite place to be. I'm not sure how I'll cope not being here all the time! I know I will miss helping make this great community run as smoothly as possible but I'm very excited at this new chapter ahead of me.

Aaaaand now I have to really keep myself from tearing up. See what you guys do to me?  Kiss Kiss

Unfortunately I don't seem to have ANY pictures with just me and sweets and leah, but I'll leave you with a photo of a lot of us moderators at our mod meet-up in Boston in 2008, which is where I was offered this amazing job. (I'm the one with the flash of pink hair!)

26  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Please help me to identify this Calanda sewing machine on: October 01, 2013 08:06:47 AM
I think it's a Calanda 706. It's actually a serger/overlocker. If you are a brand new beginner it's going to be a much harder start than a regular sewing machine, I think, but it's a good thing to have around! Especially if you'd like to sew clothing.

These aren't quite ready for prime time in my gallery spot so I'm going to put them here until they're all completely done/right.

Pardon all of my non-clipped thread.

(I didn't realize the bottom was wonky until I took the picture! ugh.)

Awesome! You're very welcome!
29  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 4 Gallery on: September 25, 2013 08:43:10 PM
Tonight has been spent cutting and sewing! I tried to make a second round of scrappy strips for Sparkledust. My first set seemed pretty boring so I tried again with some other fabric that I thought was prettier. The blocks look super pretty! But my word they're not the right size. How can that block be the one giving me the biggest fits?  Cheesy

I also made two garden fence blocks which look gorgeous! But I have to wait on the third until I go get some more white fabric tomorrow.

Now I'm working on cutting the braid-y bits for Fontuia.  Smiley

I should be able to put up a couple of photos in the morning when the light is better.

I'll be spending the next two nights and early Saturday sewing sewing sewing! Not sure how all this time crept up on me so.  Tongue
30  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Pet Allergies and Vintage Clothing? on: September 25, 2013 11:39:47 AM
It would seem to me that anyone who would have a serious reaction to a tiny amount of animal dander would just know to stay away from vintage clothing. I personally wouldn't worry about it too much if you can keep the clothing in containers or another room or something.
