31  January'07 Rainbow theme in Craftalongs by happyfrog on: January 15, 2007 07:27:30 PM
Introducing 'Rainbow Frog'  Smiley  He was a REAL challenge, but I'm happy to say he's now done and in time for my nursling's first birthday (tomorrow!) - I am hoping he really likes him.  If nothing else, *I* like him!!!  Smiley

Here was Rainbow Frog at his inception:

and here is Rainbow Frog hanging out with his new buddy, Sylvia, the cat:

Hope he makes you all smile.  Smiley

I'm so in!!

I got the CUTEST idea for January!  I had this fabric and didn't know what else to do with it, so:  Here's my current stage on it:

Now to find time to cut it out and stitch it up!  Smiley  (If I get it done before the 16th, it'll be my baby's first birthday present.)  Smiley

33  Traffic Sign in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by happyfrog on: January 01, 2007 07:53:53 AM
gotta download the pics off my camera and then I'll be able to show ya'll what I just made this morning.

I loved this challenge - gave me a chance to make something I actually needed! (A proper bag to hold the EpiPen for my very allergic son.)

Here's a little slideshow of my attempt at pics while making this:

Here's a pic of the finished traffic sign purse:

Here's a pic of the inside - showing the pocket, holding the EpiPen.  Smiley

I went to:

http://www.trafficsignstore.com/recreation.html

and printed out the image for:  Emergency Medical Services and used tracing paper to get it transferred to my fabric.

Used Fabric paint for the snake/rod emblem.  Some left over diaper twill for the white part, and some left over blue fabric from the stockings I made for the boys for Christmas.

It was my first attempt at embroidery and you can tell, but hey, the bag is usable.  I figure even though it's kind of a stitch and botch, it's still entertaining and useful to me, so I thought I'd share.

Please be gentle with me.  I'm new at this sewing stuff and don't have patterns - so it takes me a LONG time to figure out how to make what I want.

Oh, my proud moment on this bag - I figured out how to sew pleats on the bottom of the pocket, and then used some leftover diaper elastic in a casing for the top part of the pocket.  Looks pretty nice, Ithink.  (at least for a first attempt at a pocket.  LOL)

It may not be a true interpretation of a traffic sign - the interfacing isn't holding as stiff as I was hoping, but the idea is there at least.  Smiley

Oh, if anyone knows how to make slideshows show up on these boards, pls let me know - I am using photobucket.
