11  Re: Pocket Diapers! in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by happyfrog on: December 30, 2007 01:01:53 AM

I am a fellow cloth diapering mom who just finished the first part of my next kid's stash of diapers:

14 small diaper covers
12 fitted very baby serged small diapers
39 chloe toes fitted small diapers
14 medium diaper covers

pics are here:  http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a212/happyfroggy/Diaper%20Stash/

I'm going to be working on 40 medium chloe toes fitted diapers soon.  Smiley

BettyAnn
mommy to 2 in cloth diapers, soon to be THREE in cloth diapers AT ONCE!

I thought I was up to my eyeballs in diapers, but I only have one in diapers!  Do you have any tips on storing them.  The diaper stacker is no longer an option, and it didn't hold them very well anyway.  I can't even fit a days worth in the diaper pail anymore and am going to get a bigger one.

I just bought a 3 drawer plastic 'dresser' thingy from walmart for about $20 for the next kid's diapers and clothes.

the 2 kids currently in diapers have their diapers stored in a 6 drawer dresser that's about waist high that I put a foam pad on covered with fabric and plastic - here's a partial pic of the dresser:

a closeup of the snaps i used on the vinyl covering the fabric covered foam - I tried to kind of make the vinyl part look like it was studs.  LOL

works pretty well.

top left drawer is prefolds/fitteds
top right is washcloths
left middle is aio/pockets/ai2's mostly and lay in doublers for extra protection
right middle is diaper covers and fleece pants
left bottom is clothes for the boys
right bottom is socks and slippers

hth.

i freecycled my changing table a LONG time ago - this works MUCH better for me.

ps

for the diaper pail woes - i posted wanteds on freecycle for those tidy cat cat litter hinged top containers.  they work AWESOMELY in the bathrooms to hold the poopy diapers.  the wet diapers, you can see in the pic how I store them - they're in an old 'frosting' container I covered with contact paper - got it for $1 from the bakery at Walmart.  As long as one does NOT put a lid on the 'just wet' diapers, there is NO odor - weird, but true.

i do diaper laundry daily.  there's no way i could fit all the diapers and clothes the kids go thru in a day in the washer if i skipped a day. . .

12  Feminine products/incontinence pads in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by happyfrog on: December 05, 2007 09:29:18 AM
This week I've been working on making incontinence pads that will also work after baby arrives as menstrual pads.  (Environmentally friendly ideas here.)  Smiley

Anyways, here's my first attempt:

the above worked well, but the wings were too narrow I thought.

So I tried again:

a more rectangular approach seems to work better:

I think I like the rectangle pattern approach better with fit.  So I will make up more of those.

For the details (for those so intrigued):

I simply traced a disposable pad and started there and modified as I saw fit to do.

Then after I figured out my own patterns, I then went ahead and made a soaker pattern, too off the larger pattern.

For the actual product,

1 full body of pul
2 full body layers of flannel
6 soaker layers of flannel.
polyacetal snaps
100% polyester thread
ball point needle

13  Re: 29 new diaper covers! :) in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by happyfrog on: December 03, 2007 09:29:01 AM
Thanks, ya'll!  Smiley

as for how they work, I personally prefer fitted diapers and prefolds under the diaper covers.  (diaper covers are waterproof barrier.)  I am in process of making 24 more small fitted diapers and 36 medium fitted diapers.  (as in, I have the materials, but need to get cutitng and sewing, lol.)

Here is a link to some of the fitteds I've already finished for next kidlet:

15 small chloe toes fitted diapers:

a close up of 3 of them (yes, that's BROCADE fabric!  *loveeyes*) (I did put an extra full body of flannel behind the brocade in the event the brocade does not hold up long term, so the diapers will still be very practical and usable.)

12 small very baby serged edges fitted diapers:

here are 3 diaper covers i made recently - these are size large - 2 are for my kids in diapers, one is for a friend who loved the fabric.  Smiley

oh and some of my prefolds - I tie dyed them a couple years ago - they STILL look this great!!!  Smiley  I also added snaps to them so they are more like a fitted with ease of use.  Smiley

14  29 new diaper covers! :) in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by happyfrog on: December 03, 2007 08:55:49 AM
I just finished 14 small, 14 medium, and one large diaper cover.  Whew.

I worked on them yesterday while dh watched the kids for a couple hours, then into the wee hours of the morning this morning and then just finished putting the last snap on a few minutes ago.  Whew!  I am one tired pregnant mommy!

The single large diaper cover was from a cut I received from a coop and wasn't large enough to make 2 covers, so the boys will have to fight over it, lol.  Smiley

The FOE is all from thisendup.  The 28 small and medium is all sandwich pul from lovinbundles.

My next kidlet should now have enough diaper covers.  Smiley  (next kidlet when s/he grows will use the large diaper covers already in circulation on my 2 kids now.)  Smiley

Don't they look cool???  I really like the yellow/green combo A LOT!  Smiley

15  Baby Christmas Stockings and fleece hats . . . in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by happyfrog on: November 30, 2007 01:35:57 PM
My midwife had an interesting idea - for me to make a custom fitting baby stocking to put a brand new baby in.  So I came up with a snap adjustable fit side snapping baby stocking.

9 yards of red fleece
3 1/2 yards of white fleece
21 yards of pretty trim
100 snap sets

and here is the outcome:

Here are pics:

10 Size 'small' baby stocking (up to a 9 1/2 pound baby):

10- size 'large' baby stocking (9 1/2 pound up to 12 pound baby)

3 Newborn baby fleece hats:

So, what do you all think?  Smiley  I just delivered them.  She hasn't seen them yet - she wasn't home when I dropped them all off.

BettyAnn
who is one tired gal after sewing all that in the last 3 days!  Smiley

16  Re: Raining and no car? Well one makes a rain cover for the stroller! in Completed Projects by happyfrog on: November 14, 2007 11:44:52 AM
You guys are just so sweet to me!

I just found the runabout stroller website.  I think MY stroller rain cover is nicer than their 'premium' one!!  I used heavy weight vinyl so it is comparable I believe to their premium one

Plastic Weather Shield (fits over canopy)
        Premium $90

Here's a pic of 'their' rain cover

You guys decide.  Smiley

I just made the cutest (i think, lol) little bag that holds an ipod, keys, and credit cards/dollar bills.

even has a handy snap handle so one can attach it to the shopping cart or whatever, if desired.

Let me know what ya'll think!

19  Rainbow Frog (was a gift for my 1year old at his birthday) in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by happyfrog on: October 11, 2007 06:25:47 PM
I just came across this pic of a toy I made my son for his 1 year birthday party/gift.  He's now 21 months old and STILL adores this frog.  Heck, he's sound asleep with it right now.  *loveeyes*  I never thought he'd like it as much as he has. . ..

20  Re: Chloe Toes Fitted Diapers size small in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by happyfrog on: September 23, 2007 07:04:05 AM
Smiley  I find time by letting the kids fling food all around the kitchen while i sew at the table, lol.

I just finished stitching up another 13 diapers - for a total of 15 in this particular pattern and size. . .

I made these a couple weeks ago:  (these are Very Baby fitted diapers - size small - there's a dozen of them)

I want to make another dozen diapers in small - leaning towards the ct pattern and then I can make more mediums for my boys that wear that size now.  Smiley  I also cut out a bunch of diaper covers out of colored sandwich pul that I need to apply foe to but I'm running low and not sure when my next coop order will arrive. . .
