1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: Helping others craftalong on: February 01, 2007 08:50:23 PM
I just started a project to make purple hearts for one of our US troops (and the husband of an Etsy gal)...I'm trying to collect as many handcrafted/handmade purple hearts (or things that have a purple heart incorporated into their design) in the next month as possible...So we can stuff a box and send them on to the hugely deserving recipient (he has been denied the official Purple Heart due to a clerical problem but has earned it...there is also a petition to get him his Purple Heart...
I've posted more info at http://www.craftlove.org...
Hope all of you will join me!
This isn't about the war or politics or hate or who is right or wrong, it's about showing someone love and support, it's about humanity.
Hope everyone is well this evening...

This is great!
I think I might try this and modify it a wee bit and make it a cooler way to carry my insulin pump.
Awesome!

3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: "_____ in a box" gift ideas. on: December 19, 2006 07:49:45 PM
I did a fun "screenplay in a box" for a writer friend who was thinking of trying her hand at a screenplay- I included a couple of script boxes (for submissions of course!), brass brads, paper, a list of screenwriting resources and a book, a highlighter, and pens in all colors, a pencil, and index cards...
She loved it..

4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Meat-Themed Valentine's Day! on: December 19, 2006 07:44:27 PM
Hi- I just read your post and remembered seeing this yesterday:
just type "Steak" into Etsy and some fun  stuff pops up...
this person has meat "stuffies" (oh that just sounds so strange)

good luck- That is one awesome idea for a valentine's theme!
Very very cool!
Best wishes,

5  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: Buyer Turn Offs on: December 19, 2006 12:19:51 PM
Someone early on mentioned cats and the "pet free home" thing...
I'm allergic (not severely allergic- I don't go into shock or anything)- I get hives and swollen eyes and it screws up my blood sugar if I am in contact with cats (for some reason not maine coon cats..weirdness) and most dogs but not as bad- with them it's the saliva...cats are worse for me...
While buying something from a cat person isn't an automatic no- I can't buy anything fabric or where I won't be able to thoroughly wash and disinfect it first...
I believe animals are part of the family and part of our lives every second we are home but I'm just wary when I see a cat in photos or someone's profile mentions a cat...because it means I'm probably going to open my mail and forget about the cat in the pictures, description, profile etc and I'm going to feel pretty sick and crappy until I get everything cleaned up- it's extra work for me (I have other things I rather do)...
What I do like and am completely undetered by is when someone mentions they keep their crafting stuff in a pet-free area or wash the stuff before they ship it out. Then I don't even give it a second thought...
Other turn offs: no measurements... also don't like the "convo me for shipping info" but in some cases (multiple shipping options) it's unavoidable...and I found myself writing a whole diseration on my shipping this holiday season and then deleted it as it would have been a turn off to me....
