1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Trial Run Cabled Wristlets/Mitts with dollar store yarn: on: January 26, 2007 11:10:41 AM
Inspired by all your mitts, I just knitted these mitts to keep my fingies warm while finishing my dissertation in my new basement office (dissertation babies now inhabiting my old office space!) I used 1 skein of dollar store yarn (and its a true dollar store) to try it out. I'm also being a cheapo this year and trying mostly to recycle and not buy any new clothes but only used to remake or remake what I own, or, to make new stuff out of new fabric if absolutely necessary.  ANYONE ELSE TRYING TO ONLY REUSE or to MAKE/SEW your own this year and not buy anything or too much new?

Here they are:

I used this pattern: http://wineandneedles.blogspot.com/2004/12/wrist-warmer-pattern.html Except I had chunky cheap acrylic yarn so I cut out 12 stiches (an entire cable) and only did 2 repeats rather than 4. I also left a good inch of the seam open at the bottom edge of each mitt, whipstitched it with the yarn, and then made little balls/buttons/bobbles in a 1am haze which connect the corners back together decoratively going for the gauntlet look, I guess (ha). This makes it easier to get them on and off, esp as I reduced the pattern so much.

This is my first craft posted to craftsters, so crafsters be kind and teach me well!
