1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / My very first quilt to actually get finished on: May 18, 2010 02:45:46 PM
I am very proud of this even though it is simple.  Mostly I have grand plans for quilts followed by having lots of quilt blocks half sewn together in a basket somewhere.  This one really got done!  It measures about 36x36 (sort of stroller sized) and is a collection of lovely flannels.  It was sort of a pain to sew due to the flannel and its thickness but turned out really soft and nice in the end.

3  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / I am in love with this quilt - can I make if for my first project? on: July 22, 2007 09:24:11 AM
Hello Quilters!

I normally hang out over in the knitting category but thought I would come to you for some help.  I want to learn to quilt... well really I want to make this quilt: http://www.bookhou.com/babycollection-decorate-quilt.htm

Would it be too hard for a first project?  It doesn't look crazy difficult to me (but then, I'm not a quilter).  What do you think?  Can you recommend a book or something to get me started.  I think I understand the sewing blocks together part... I'm am a little more concerned with the quilting things down to the puffy middle and backing part.

Thanks so much.
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Scarf for Dad on: July 18, 2007 05:15:52 PM
The pattern is from Last Minute Knitted Gifts (Cashmere Scarf) but I was not willing to spend quite that much on yarn so it is a wool/alpaca/silk mix (still not cheap, gah!).  The yarn is a kettle dyed black to gray -- which didn't show up so well when I was taking pictures.  The yarn was also slightly bigger than the yarn called for so I only cast on 19 stitches instead of 21.  One good thing about bulky yarn - finished this sucker in one day!  Sorry the pics are so big.

What do you think?  I can't decide if I like the front side or back side better.
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / New Bloo Mittens on: July 14, 2007 07:37:28 PM
I got this idea from this lovely post: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=81651.0

I knit mine in the round using Cascade 220 Superwash and based them off a couple of mitten patterns I have.  They were a birthday present for a friend - no one is too old for Foster's!

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Snapping Turtle Baby Blanket on: June 20, 2007 08:25:16 PM
A friend is having a little boy any day now... and I am so happy that his baby blanket is finished in time Smiley

I used the hexagon pattern from the Snapping Turtle Skirt in Knitting Nature.  Difficult at first but I got the hang of it by the 3rd one.  And, wow, did my picking up stitches skills increase.

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / What to do with Noro Hana Silk? on: June 13, 2007 11:08:04 PM
I bought a bag of Noro's Hana Silk ribbon because ...

a) it is beautiful
b) it was 50% off
c) i have low impulse control

I have no idea what to do with it.  I'm not a big fan of the Noro patterns (don't fit my body and I think they are sorta blah/old ladyish).  I have about 1000 yards in sea green.  Any ideas out there?  What have you made from this yarn (or with any ribbon yarn)?  I understand it's not the worst problem to have, and I could simply put it in the stash and wait for the right project to come along.... but... did I mention the low impulse control??
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / how big for an oval baby blanket on: June 01, 2007 10:31:10 AM
Has anyone made a round or oval baby blanket?  I'm working on one right now without a pattern and I'm not sure how big it should be.  Right now it's about 30" X 35" but it just..... looks small.
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Advice Please: Pomatomus or Monkey on: May 15, 2007 11:54:24 AM
I'm looking for a challenge and have some lovely lorna's laces sock yarn.... also a slight Cookie A fixation.  No stalking yet, I swear.
