1251  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Swap a yard of fabric swap - February on: February 10, 2007 03:42:59 AM
I measured the mask fabric. They are 7 inches high by 6.5 high, measuring from the outsides of the gold trim. So the three of them don't equal a FQ.

I also measured the purple and it is ninety-six inches by35 inches. So there is plenty but I will have to convert it to equal a yard of normal width fabric.

I borrowed an Indygo Junction book from the library and have been on a bag making binge. I have three more in production as well as this. Someone at my quilt guild donated fabric they didn't want anymore. This was a leftover piece of backed curtain material which I happened to have a hand dyed (not by me) piece of fabric which really went with it.

I live in a small town and no bag handles available here for me. I was sick of making fabric ones so I bought dowel, cut it and rounded the edges.

All my fabric is new. Store bought or from eBay but always listed as new. Non smoking household with no pets inside.

I claim Gavagai for the cream fabric with the flower outlines on it.

I will post more links but click next for the rest of the photos.

I lover the fabric from the second purse.

Or reincarnate it, or something. So, after showing my Mum my first few bags, she runs home and comes back with this.

A big stinky pile of old fabric in a plastic bag and some red fabric in another plastic bag. She had this bag years ago which she really loved. Anyway, it died and in her grief she took its dissected carcass to a fabric store and the lady there helped her buy enough fabric, trim etc to make one the same.

Now, my Mum can't hem something without it falling down within half an hour but she cut a few templates out of newspaper (way too big, I might add) but then panicked and put it away. She has tried unsuccessfully to get several people to do it but they all claimed that they had never made a bag ....

So, a day later.....the Million Hour Bag.

Closed at the top with a drawstring.

The trickiest bit. The bottom.

Haven't shown Mum yet, the highway is cut from flooding rains.

1258  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Need binding help on: February 03, 2007 02:44:07 PM
Have you got any more of the fabric? If so, I would just unpick a few inches either side of the the cut to give you room to maneuver, cut both the new and old binding on a 45 degree angle and join it. Then sew the binding on.

I make my own binding so it already has joins in it.

This was going to be for me but it is so tiny. I think I need something bigger. I might put it away for Christmas time. Which is a shame because I love, love, love the butterfly fabric.

I made it reversible since I couldn't decide which should be lining and which should be the outer. I use cut up cheap cutting boards for the base so it is waterproof. It makes it a bit harder to turn inside out but not too bad.

Finally got my pics up. This is the second one I did. No pics of the first. It was all pink inside but I ran out.
