11  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Undersea Cross Stitch on: February 01, 2016 10:57:17 AM
This has been laying around my house unfinished forever, so I decided I should probably finish it.  I got the pattern from Etsy. Finished size is about 7" wide and 13" high.

The jellyfish is my favorite.
12  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / I Was a Cross Stitch Once. It Was Awful. Grumpy Cat Cross Stitch on: January 31, 2016 07:02:11 PM
I love grumpy cat.  Cats are probably my favorite animal and I'm a grumpy person myself so I can identify with her pretty well.  I got the pattern from Etsy.  She fits in an 8" hoop.

She was fun to make and stitched up pretty quickly.
13  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / American McGee's Cheshire Cat on: January 31, 2016 06:58:45 PM
This is another work by my cross stitching fiance.  It took him 9 months and has 100 colors.  Stitched area is about 7" wide by 6" high.  It looks great!

He likes to see what people think, so feel free to post your comments!
14  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Need Some Retro Recipe Help on: January 25, 2016 09:17:27 AM
For my wedding I'm doing a 1950's style buffet.  For the most part we're ordering party platters for pinwheel sandwiches and deviled eggs, but I'd like to make a totally 50's jello salad and ambrosia salad.  Does anyone have an old recipe for either of these?

Thanks!
15  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / I need help making this bridal shrug on: January 02, 2016 02:29:48 PM
I'd like to make a cover-up for my wedding dress that looks like this: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/576179346051504161/

It can't be that hard to make, but I can't find a pattern or tutorial online for one.  Anyone know how I can make one of these?  This is my dress: http://hottopic.scene7.com/is/image/HotTopic/10336162_hi?$tile_clp_3up_standard$  I guess really any wrap or shrug would work, but I don't want it to cover the front of the dress since it has the cut-out in the front.  I'm about a size 22 and self conscious about my arms so I'd feel better with a little something to cover my arms.
16  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Fallout Themed Wedding on: December 26, 2015 03:37:07 PM
Hi everyone!  My bf proposed last week.  We haven't set a date or anything, but I want to start a little planning because I know it's a lot of dang work (especially since we don't have a lot of money and most things will have to be DIY).  I want to do a Fallout theme. Fallout is a post-nuclear war world with a retro 50's theme.

Here's some stuff I need help with:
1. Birdcage veil tutorial or pattern.  I found my dress at Torrid and it's an off-white color.  It's not a long dress, so I don't want a traditional veil.  People on Etsy want $30+ for a birdcage veil and I thought to myself "self, I bet you can make one of those."
2. Favor ideas.  I have no idea what kind of favors to make for a Fallout themed wedding.
3. Cake designs.  Either myself or my coworker can make the cake, but I'm not sure what a good design would be.  I hate fondant, so anything without fondant is game.  I'm looking for something either traditional 1950's or with a fun retro feel.  It doesn't have to be huge- we'll have less than 50 people.
4. Centerpieces.  I have no clue.  I'd like to shy away from anything with candles/open flames because most places I'm looking at don't allow that kind of thing.

I'm sick in bed right now, so I thought doing a little planning and research would perk me up.  Any help is appreciated!
17  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Rustic Truck Cross Stitch on: December 14, 2015 07:14:04 AM
My mom found this free pattern online and texted me at 6am to tell me she wanted it for Christmas since she doesn't cross stitch. Why she had to tell me this at 6am is still unclear. So being the good daughter I am, I downloaded the pattern and stitched it up. I didn't want to make a hoopla so I went looking for a frame and found the perfect one!

I think she'll like it. Only problem is that my bf's sister saw it and now she wants one. But I can't find the frame again!
18  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Persona 4 Tarot Card Designs on: October 01, 2015 04:47:17 PM
I'm learning how to draw and I want to make a Tarot deck with all the characters from the video game Persona 4.  I decided to start with Teddie and the fox since I'm not very good at people yet.  I would like some feedback on my drawing and any tips you can offer.  I'm taking a drawing class in November, so I'm hoping I'll be able to start on the people cards by then.  These are not the finished designs, I just wanted to try a design before making the final product.

Again, C&C is welcome!
19  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Crocheted Tarot Pouches (Pic Heavy) on: September 28, 2015 06:46:28 PM
I wanted a pretty pouch to put my Tarot cards in, and when my coworker saw it she wanted one for herself.  Then I got a second deck of cards, so I needed to make one for that... and I ended up with 4 of my own bags.  They're really quick to make and I found some fun yarn in my stash.

Here's the one I made for my coworker

Here's a pretty pink one I made.  I have my Nicoletta Ceccoli deck in it.

A Halloween one I have my Rider-Waite deck in right now.

A pretty silver one

And I tried another type of closure with a Jade bead instead of a button.

These are so much fun to make!  I'd like to make more for gifts for my friends.
20  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Monster High Day of the Dead Custom on: August 31, 2015 08:18:18 PM
One of my bosses collects day of the dead stuff and the other day she told me she'd like a doll because she adds something new every year.  I had a skeleton head laying around from a Create-a-Monster set, and I had to use a Spectra (the ghost) body because she's the only white body other than Katrine (the cat), which is hard to find.  That is why this doll's hands and feet are clear; because she's a ghost character.

Anyway, I haven't had good luck doing my own face-ups because I have trouble with eyes so I added to the factory face (spider web, swirls, heart, dots, mouth).  I painted a small rib design on her neck/chest as well.  I had a wig laying around from a create-a-monster set and I added a veil and some flowers to it.  I made the dress and shawl as well.

I hope this is what she had in mind.  I had a lot of fun making her and I may do another for myself!
