261  Re: Poppet Outfits Only! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by amigurl55 on: April 03, 2009 02:06:57 PM
So I realize this thread hasn't been posted in for a couple months, but its better to post in an existing thread than to start a new one, right?  Plus Emiko wanted to show off some of her cute new clothes.

Fancy dress.  You can't really tell from the pic, but the design is sparkly.

Poodle skirt!

Emiko would like to see what the other poppets are wearing, too.

I made a quick photo tutorial.  I'm a visual learner myself, so stuff like this really helps.

1) Cut your yarn and place it together.  Make sure its as close together as you can get it so you don't end up with gaps in your hair.

2) Cut a strip of fusible interfacing.  Make it so its the same length as your, um, hair grid(?).  Place it fusible side down onto the yarn.

3) Fuse

OK, I admit I wanted to show off my cute iron.

Make sure the interfacing is fused onto the yarn

4) Sew.  I like sewing interfacing down so I can see what the yarn is doing as I'm sewing, but it may be better for some machines if you sew interfacing side up.

5) Tear off interfacing and attach hair to poppet

I hope this helps somebody.

littlezo- interfacing helps make fabric more sturdy.  Its used a lot in purses and stuff.

I have an idea for a fairy poppet.  Does this look OK for the wings, or is it too sparkly and looks like a 5 year old made it?

264  Another Poppet (stop me!) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by amigurl55 on: March 30, 2009 10:09:45 PM
After making my second poppet in a different fabric from the first, I decided I liked the second fabric better.  Having sent said second poppet to my husband's Grandma, I had to make another for myself.

Thanks again for the pattern, Ghilie!!  The shirt is craftewoman's peasant top with longer sleeves.  I found the skull in the clearance at Michael's- its just a little sticky thing.  I winged the skirt (PM me for a very basic tutorial if you want to make one).  Her hair is Yarn Bee Cameo from Hobby Lobby and its sooooo soft.

265  Poppet for Grandma Theo in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by amigurl55 on: March 27, 2009 12:46:49 PM
My husband's grandma collects dolls, so I made a poppet for her.  It looks like the poppet is looking up in the pics, but its just the angle I took them at.

and an extra dress

266  I did it! I made a poppet! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by amigurl55 on: March 24, 2009 12:46:46 PM
I'm fairly new to sewing, and wasn't so confident in my abilities.  But I really wanted to make a poppet.  So I got the pattern (thanks, Ghilie!) and took my time.  Thanks to all of the awesome craftsters who helped me and patiently answered my dumb "new to sewing" questions!

I'm not sure what to name her.

Must... make... more....

My feet look a little tilted.  Is this how they're supposed to look?

269  Pink Ninja in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by amigurl55 on: March 19, 2009 02:54:05 PM
inspired by all the beautiful stuffies and dolls here, I wanted to make my own.  Every previous attempt I have made has failed, so I'm pretty dang happy that this is posting quality.  I didn't use a pattern, just kind of made it up as I went.  I just used what I had on hand.  The body is polar fleece and the face and flower are felt.

Comments and criticism welcome!

270  Poppa Rocks aka Don Patch in Needlework: Completed Projects by amigurl55 on: March 14, 2009 09:59:03 AM
I'm going to be really surprised if anyone's heard of this manga/anime.  Bobobo Bobobobo.  That's right.  Anyway, my husband and I think the manga and anime are hilarious.  He was reading it the other day and thought this particular panel was hilarious, so I stitched it up.

Close up of the lettering

In case you can't read the text: Poppa Rocks is saying "Beauty, tell this fool who the main character is."  And Beauty is saying, "Um, Bobobo."

Just some more geeky weirdness from me, the Queen of geeky weirdness.
