1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Book Origami Tutorials? on: February 15, 2011 03:39:54 PM
My mom is interested in taking up book origami--folding pages of books to make words or designs, like a ton of etsy folk and artists do.  I have scoured the internet for tutorials, as I've seen at least one before (years ago).

Does anyone know where I can find anything to help get her started?
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Candy skull cameo on: December 26, 2010 04:17:29 PM
I have a friend who is really into zombies (who isn't!) so I wanted to stitch her up a cool little something for Christmas.  Unfortunately, it turned into more of a candy skull but I still like it.

It's mostly split stitch with a little touch of satin and chain thrown in. It's stitched onto white felt.  And you can see how bad I still am at French knots -- def need to practice them!

and then i haphazardly sewed it onto another piece of felt to frame it and give it more of the cameo feel.  it's cheap and simple, but hopefully my friend enjoys it!  thanks for looking.

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / First attempt at punch needle embroidery -- Owl Kit on: December 23, 2010 02:19:30 AM
Wandering around the craft store looking for ideas for Christmas presents, I found this punch needle kit on clearance and thought I'd give it a try.  I'd never heard of punch needle/Russian embroidery before, but it turned out to be really fun! Like making a little carpet square or something.

So here's my first punch needle project! The kit came with the floss and pattern, so neither the color choice nor the pattern are mine (not a huge fan of the mint green).  Here you go:

4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Nest in a tree embroidery on: November 24, 2010 06:56:45 AM
I was inspired by this lovely post:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=304661.0

I am a little obsessed with embroidering woodgrain, lately.  I've done this and a couple of "initials carved in trees" projects, and I find it to be incredibly fun--free-form and relaxing.

So here is my bird's nest inside a tree, as seen by a crappy blackberry camera!

I need to practice stitches other than chain.  Mayhaps that's what i'll do with my free-time over Thanksgiving.  Hopefully you'll all see some great results!
5  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / lame Old North State pumpkin on: November 23, 2010 11:29:15 AM
Pumpkin carving is a LOT harder than I expected it to be.  This was supposed to have a star in the middle, but my bridges snapped.  Also, due to errors caused by my profound impatience, North Carolina is incredibly chubby.

6  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Sublime Stitching hedgehog/porcupine thing on: November 23, 2010 11:15:49 AM
I needed stuff to hang on my walls in a new apartment, so I am trying to pick my needlework habit back up.  Here's a hedgehog from the Sublime Stitching pattern, ready to munch on a mushroom.

I'm a little rusty on stitching, and the shroom is my first attempt at satin stitch ever.

It is what it is!

sorry for the crummy blackberry camera photo.
