51  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Summer Rainbow earrings and pendant! on: May 27, 2008 02:37:18 PM
I made these today, from fimo, Indian wooden beads and some cord which may or may not be leather! I think they're really funky and great for summer.  I had a little trouble getting the crimps onto the cord though, I always end up crushing them :-(

Anyhoo, bring on the cheerfulness!
from melissa (who has ginger/orange hair to go with the funky earrings!)
52  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Kitty and his pillow (say aww!) or How I learned to love sewing again. on: May 26, 2008 10:39:34 AM
I decided that I'm a thoroughly rubbish craftster, as I never use my sewing machine and all I make is jewellery.  Not that I don't like jewellery making, but when I was at school I enjoyed sewing, but I'm a calamity jane sort of person- everything goes a bit wrong- so I tend to avoid it like the plague.

I decided to brush the dust off my machine (which I only bought last year or so) and make something.  Anything.  I sewed some squares together like patchwork, the green fabric used to be a silk dress which ripped.  Stuffed it, sewed a small czech glass bead on the front and a bell at the corner, to make a little cushion.  I originally wanted to make a small purse but seeing as this alone took me 2 hours I decided to start small.  I took textiles at school when I was 16 but I frequently sewed things to my uniform, and seem to have got worse since then!

I have this kit(ty) (get it!! I kill me..) which I bought when I was about 10.  It consists of the front, back and paws/bottom of a cat printed onto cotton for you to cut out and sew together then stuff.  It didn't seem to be my style any more, but I thought I'd give it a go as it has been 10 years..to prove I'm not scared of sewing!

I made the kitty and filled him with some dried beans as I don't have actual stuffing and didn't want to use up all my wadding.  I sewed 2 onyx (I think) semi-precious stone beads onto his eyes and finally I put some faux suede with a little bell on around his neck.

So there you have it, kitty and his pillow.  I know, it's simple, but I tend to rush things and end up with a disaster, so I knew I had to start at the beginning if I wanted to get anything done.

Here are some photos- I took lots and I write lots, too, so I'd better leave it at this!

53  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Autumn colours bracelet... bohemian on: May 22, 2008 12:54:06 PM
I have only made a few posts on Craftster before...a long time ago, I posted a keyring which in retrospect was pretty bad- definitely a beginner! I have since made more stuff using proper tools (not wire I found in the garage!).

I made this bracelet last night.  The chain is steel I think, the clasp is silver plated and the beads are a mixture of Indian glass beads, cz fired faceted glass beads, goldstone, tigers eye and other semi precious stones.  I was going to put some red swarovski crystals on but I forgot!!

I'm really pleased with this.  I usually try sewing but I'm such a klutz, strangely enough I really like making jewellery though.

All opinions/comments/constructive criticism welcome.

54  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Sea Gems bracelet on: December 04, 2007 01:22:53 PM
I made this last night.  The pictures aren't very good, it is greener (and not so blurry!) in reality.

It is my first creation with proper findings (the first time I used crimps, tigertail etc).

The beads include Indian glass beads, cats-eye stones and swarovski crystals.

All comments welcome

55  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / My creation, I'm a beginner (and clumsy too!)... on: December 09, 2006 12:51:55 PM
I had a pack of plastic beads lying around which aren't to my own personal taste, I decided to see if there was anything I could make with them to sell on etsy. I was inspired by the charm things which seem to be popular at the moment, but this has a more childlike feel to it. I used stretch magic elastic for the bracelet, and impex 28g wire for the keyring. My mum bought me the beading wire, it's a little too thin for making earrings etc but I wanted to see what I could make. I would like to put these on my etsy shop, how much do you think I should charge? I'm in the uk if it makes any difference.

ps. I think this is my first post, hello everyone!
