My first proper crochet project since middle school!

You see, crochet and I have always had this love/hate relationship triangle with knitting.  When knitting and I get angry with each other, I comfort myself with crochet.  For the past forever, though, I've only seen crochet in the form of dice bags.  I wanted something else to do, and my silly friends keep having babies.

The colors are messed up in the picture.  They're Simply Soft Brites, in every color that was awesome (stash busting from the Happy Hippie Gloves).

Didn't turn out too bad.  I love the colors, and enjoyed the excuse to sit around watching Doctor Who.  Crocheting the pieces together didn't work as well as I wanted it to, but it's not that noticeable once I blocked it.  I'm pretty happy with it overall.

Kitten insists on helping me do everything, including take pictures.  While I was working on this, she would routinely grab my yarn and run off with it.

I walked past this in Ophelia Parrish, and the game controller is what caught my eye and made me stare at it for five minutes.  haha.

two featured projects from Kirksville, go us!
...or something like that?

Ysolda wrote a really good blog post on swatching here:

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Happy Rainbow Gloves on: December 13, 2007 02:35:22 PM
All of my friends seem to want fingerless gloves this season, including my roommate.  I asked her what she wanted them to look like, and she drew me a picture.

I used Caron Simply Soft Brites in Lemonade, Mango, Blue Ice, Grape, Lime and Watermelon.  Whipped up the charts in Excel, took a few measurements, and pretty much swung it from there.  Weaving in the ends took way too long.

I can't decide if they're a monstrosity or amazing.

She loves them, and cannot take a normal picture.

They look a bit wonky in this picture.  I'm not sure why.  Silly things.

EDIT:
A few of you asked about the outline on the heart and the peace sign.  I am far from proficient at embroidery, but I think any knitter or crocheter should learn the chain stitch.  It fits very well with the texture of the fabric.  There's a fabulous video for it here:
