1  Granny Stripe for niece in Crochet: Completed Projects by myklia on: January 21, 2012 10:22:48 AM
I made this Granny Stripe blanket for my niece.  I'm more of a knitter than crocheter.  This is the best crochet project I have done to date.

3  Flame hat in Knitting: Completed Projects by myklia on: December 03, 2011 01:02:58 PM
For lack of a better name.  I knit and designed this hat (there are similar cable patterns, but I haven't found this exact one yet).  Needless to say big enough for a child, so there is a second attempt in the future casting on more stitches and making it a little longer.  Still, I love how it turned out and I have a child in mind to give the hat to.

Details of swap:
The ugly Christmas sweater, once the fashion item of grannies at Christmas, now the joke of the room with everyone wanting to be the one wearing the ugliest sweater.  This is one of the best I have seen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ywt0GhaXuu0

Let us have fun making one for each other.  Here are the details:

* You will send a clothing item to your partner for them to uglify.  Could be a sweater, sweatshirt, t-shirt, etc.  I would very strongly encourage you to find a lightweight version as you have to mail this them and then they have to mail it back.  For those in the USA, flat rate boxes may help with the cost of shipping.

When you receive the clothing item, you must:

*Do five smalls.  Either add a crafted item or do alterations, but there must be a minimum of 4 crafted items added to the sweater (this could include a painted motif or embroidery, I dont consider that an alteration).  If there are 2 or more alterations you want to do, those will be extra.  Also, if you do alterations, take care not to make the item smaller, at least not without talking to your partner first.  Items should ideally be sewn on (just simple needle and thread if need be).  If you want to attach items another way, talk to your partner.

* Make an additional 4 crafted items for your partner for them to add themselves. When you get your clothing item back, must add at least 3 of them.

* What fun is a swap without the pictures at the end?  You need to take pictures or find someone in your life to take pictures for you.  Ideally we want to see a picture of YOU in your new ugly Christmas sweater, but I will accept of picture of just the ugly Christmas sweater.  Really really make an effort to get a picture of you wearing the item.

* I will make a best effort to partner people within the same country, but this can not be guaranteed.  Certainly you can choose not to ship outside your country.  If I have an imbalance, I may have to start PMing people. See my comments above.

* I will have weekly check-ins via PM.  Please keep the communication good in the thread and with each other.  I know life gets busy, so at minimum I expect you to respond to the weekly check ins and ideally have weekly, if not more often, communication with your partner.  That is what makes swaps fun, getting to know new people.

* Most important rule of: HAVE FUN!!!!

7  Ugly Christmas Sweater Swap!!! in New Swap Theme Ideas by myklia on: July 30, 2011 07:38:08 AM

I know all of you have always wanted a unique ugly Christmas sweater all your own.  So I think we can all help each other in creating one.  These are the details I am thinking.  I want to hear your opinions, this is not set in stone by any means.

Everyone obtains their own sweater/sweatshirt/tshirt/whatever to decorate.

You have two partners who you send 10 items to each of them and they each send 10 items to you to sew/glue/whatever on your Christmas sweater.  In the end you will have 20 items to add to your Christmas Sweater.

I am thinking starting sign ups on September 3rd and end them September 24th.  Send outs November 12th.

5 of the small items for each partner should be crafted.

Extras or more items should be discussed between partners.

Questions:

What adjustments would you make to the above?

I would require people post pictures of what they receive (or make arrangements for someone to post pictures for them), but should I also require that they post pictures of the done "sweater"?  Or at least arrange the items on the clothing article of choice and take a picture if they don't have time to permanently attach them to the clothing item?  The fun of this is to see an ugly Christmas sweater.

I appreciate all of your input.

Here is some inspiration:

This is the ultimate!!!

I'm so sorry I have been M I A for over a week, I have hardly been home.  I did receive my last bit of yarn from Slingmomma:

I mixed and matched yarns from everybody.  I am in two groups and I made two Rapunzels.  I think they are both just gorgeous.  Thank you everyone for the wonderful yarns.
