Hey everyone

I saw this hat on etsy:

and i fell in love this would be so awesome but unfortunately, it's a vintage shop, so it isn't originally crafted by the seller, and on top of that, i'd like to make it in another colour.

Now i know the title of the item says Knit, but i swear those are crochet stitches in the lower spirally bits.

If anyone has any idea of how to approach/make this hat, any help would be greatly appreciated ^^

I've decided to paint all of my close friends as people in animal suits this year as part of their DIY birthday presents. This is the 1st one in what will be a long series



Acrylic on crappy dollar store canvas (with pencil crayon highlights and scribbles). In case you can't decipher what my crazy noggin thought up, he's in a superhero fox suit His face is actually a really bad attempt of water colors. it didn't turn out right, but somehow i like this better than your everyday beige coloured skin so i kept it ^^

I've contemplated putting the lyrics "I'm only a man in a silly red sheet, looking for kryptonite on this one way street" on the left side (hence the larger gap) and making this more of a mixed media thing, but i'm not sure. What do you guys think?

So out of nowhere, i got the crazy idea this year that I'm going to craft all of my friends' birthday presents (friends as in close friends. very close. I'm not a sweatshop worker afterall ) This is part of a present for a friend whose birthday is coming up in september ^^




Stones are beach glass from a beach we both went to this summer


Just something...fancy i suppose as her mum isn't very keen on her wearing fanshy smanshy things, and being the rule breaker that i am, i had to make it

Comments and critiques are very welcome ^^ although not about my scanner as i am still a poor student

I finally decided to stop being lazy and post some of my projects I personally hate wearing metal in the summer, especially around my neck, because it gets irritating as you sweat, not to mention the infamous metallic smell  So all of my necklaces this summer incorporated very little metal, if at all. Enjoy ^^

The stone at the bottom is actually wire wrapped beach glass that i got while beach-ing one day


The off-white thread that you see in there is size 10 crochet thread, and the 3rd necklace (with the twisty circle at bottom) is in fact, crocheted

eatyerhartout and i did a little personal swap, i sent her a beaded watch:



with matching earrings and she sent me a knit purse i most assuredly got the better end of the deal

Just got my package! Hooray! Retro is an AWESOME & ORIGINAL swap partner unfortunately I only have a scanner, but I managed to scan I think at least half the things (Please post pics if you have any Laura )

She made me:

§   A decoupaged clipboard
§   An AWESOME cherry blossom (I think…well it’s pink and it’s very nice ) picture frame that has little 3d wooden pieces sticking out of it
§   A wooden NINJA necklace


§   A box of cards! With awesome stamped envelopes! (they totally put my cards to shame )


§   Little play dough thingies that I have named my medallions! Funny story – I thought something smelled really good when I opened up the box and I thought it was a sweet candy or something. I gave it to my mom to smell and she couldn’t really place it either. Not until I read the letter from Laura did I realize that these little medallions were made from PLAY DOUGH and that’s what smelled so good xD


§   AWESOME button belt (it also has bling )


§   3 fabulous fabric bookmarks! I am always in need for more bookmarks … I think I must have over 20 now, but I keep on placing them all over the place so these are perfect


§   an AWESOME felt and bead covered mulberry journal
§   One of my favorites – loteria magnets!


§   TONS of scrap paper beads – I am going to have so much fun with this ^^
§   Baseball cap with buttons and a bag of additional buttons! My bro cannot put it down…he has basically claimed it as his own even though the hat is way too big for him
§   A NINJA crossing mat!!! It’s already sitting there and it’s perfect ‘cause it’s gorey and ninja-y at the same time


As if that wasn’t enough, retro included a very very pretty squirrel & bird jewelry holder (And also…it has a $400 tag on the bottom of it XD not sure if that was on purpose or not but it made me laugh)

She also sent a bracelet kit with awesome chunky beads and a HUGE bundle of crochet patterns ^^ Thanks so much! (for everything and my mom has already stolen the crochet patterns…I know this is just by coincidence but one of my teachers is about to have a baby and the crochet baby blanket is a great gift)

Oh yeah, there was also a pig stuffie from Charlotte’s Web that I’ve been hiding from my bro

great job batgrrl! what a great way to use the scarf!!! and i love the felt purse ^^

since retro has already received, and has not posted pics yet (which she will but i'm super impatient  ), i will blind you all with a scanned image XD (don't mind the odd odd shadows and light and stuff...)

the stir-fry and the cookies would probably be the easiest to whip up and the easiest to warm up ^^

as for the invitations, try something like this:



get some cardstock, some scrapbook paper for the backing add a graphic trim if you want around the invitation (coordinate it with your wedding colours) and instead of doing massive gluing, punch holes in the top and tie together with a ribbon even add beads or fake flowers if you're feeling particularly creative XD

wish we had Joann's here in canada we do have michael's but it's not the same cause the nearest one is in the suburbs ... and i don't think ttc (transport) goes up to that area very often

that's why this swap was so great for me, cause i usually get my crafty supplies from the dollar store anyway (there's about 3 different chains here in toronto so there's a wide selection of things )

anyway, i used:

- a pillowcase
- a lot of wire (for a buck though and i still have over half left over... definitely one of my favorite buys)
- seed beads
- yarn (a little crappy...not the best kind you can get obviously but ... good enough with my limited crochet/knitting skills XD)
- velcro (with sticky backing which turned out to be a pain in the butt D:)
- BUTTONS!
- felt (who doesn't love this stuff?)
- jelly thingies (can't reveal too much about that)
- something that glows in the dark (can't reveal too much either)
- and a dundundun...MYSTERY ITEM (it'll be really obvious what i made if i actually named it so yeah...)

so that's like ... 10 bucks plus tax

and just cause i like teasing ... and because i can, and cause i know my partner likes papery goodness (every picture of the items i made are completely scanned with my brand new spankin scanner cause i don't own a digital camera it gets a little...interestin g at times)



hehehe ... now you'll just have to get the package to know whatever else i crafted (what in the world could i have made with ... wire? )
