1  Re: Felt Badge Round 2 Gallery!! (Send Out July 9) in The Swap Gallery by ninjanator on: September 01, 2012 11:19:47 AM
Hi guys, I just received bec99's pins for me last night and wanted to share the picture I took. She send a package out earlier, but it got lost in the mail & she was gracious enough to resend another one. I told her I liked the woodland theme so she played around with that and sent me a tree and a leaf. Thanks bec!

2  Statement Medallion Necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by ninjanator on: July 10, 2012 02:28:05 PM
So I really wanted one of those dramatic, beaded medallion necklaces, but they were too pricey so I just made one of my own. Voila:

I beaded the circles all by hand, and then sewed the individual circles onto felt, cut the entire shape out of the felt backing, added more beads around the circles to make it more cohesive/get rid of "white space", and then backed the whole thing again on some selvage lamb skin I got off etsy. I love wearing it with simple tank tops & maxi dresses Smiley I may add an action shot when I get a chance.

Here's an action shot:

Comments & critique welcome!

5  Colourful safari inspired jewelry! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by ninjanator on: October 22, 2011 11:48:43 AM
Hey guys, I've been slacking in posting on here for a few years, but I'm still keeping up with all the wonderful projects here!

Recently, I fell in love with the ethnic jewelry that I've seen around the internet, and thought I'd give it a go.

This one's designed around the little fish charm featured in the centre of the necklace:

and this one's designed around the vintage wooden elephant bead I picked up a few years back:

I still have 3 more vintage wooden animal beads left, so I'll be working with those soon Smiley enjoy!

6  felty goodness in Winter Holidays by ninjanator on: December 20, 2010 02:18:42 PM
It's become something of a tradition where i always accompany the gifts I give out with a handmade ornament, and here's this year's batch:

the bear's for a housemate who loves bears and cute things
the tree's for my coworker
the moustache & monocle combo's for my other housemate who can't grow a stache but appreciates them

the yeti's for my bro (inspired by loveandasandwich)
the mushroom's for my mum who loves plants and nature
the horse is for a girl I teach piano to and comes to the saturday programming I'm a counsellor for. She loves horses and the colour blue Smiley

I'm probably whipping up a few more in the next couple of days, so stay tuned, ha!

7  Spotty Umbrella in Completed Projects by ninjanator on: September 12, 2010 08:22:41 PM
I don't like gloomy weather, and had an umbrella that had some ugly text on 2 of the panels, so I gave the whole thing a paint job to give it some cheer Smiley

You can see some of the text behind the paint above (someone gave it to my mum for free, hence the ad text)

the whole thing:

8  Floral sundress in CHALLENGE 52 ENTRIES by ninjanator on: July 04, 2010 07:33:45 PM
I love this challenge, and decided to make a summer dress since i'm severely lacking in those. It was made with the contour bust tutorial and the bottom is a half circle skirt. I also lined it on the inside with a gray sheet.

this is the only in-progress shot I remembered to take:

The back closes with an invisible zip, and if I ever make another one (which is very likely), I'll probably make it about 4-6 inches longer. Comments or suggestions are always welcome Smiley

9  Cuff Mania in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by ninjanator on: May 24, 2010 01:58:08 PM
Hey guys, I haven't been posting for a very long time, and thought it might be time to post a couple of things I've been working on the past few weeks. Recently, I started making cuffs - I don't know what brought this on since I've never worn them before but ... now I definitely will.

Anyway, here goes:

Organic Mod - yellow & grey together is one of my all time favorite colour combos

Coral Cuff - the one that started it all

Off the Grid

everything is hand appliqued, crocheted, beaded, what have you. The "bases" are made from linen and I'm in love with the wooden buttons for 2 of the closures (simple details like that make my day Tongue a tad silly I know)

anyway, enjoy!

10  a personalized messenger - finally! [wordy] in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by ninjanator on: January 08, 2010 08:12:12 PM

So I've been meaning to make this bag since the summer since I've been using messengers for about 5 years now, and have never found one that was both durable with a zipper closure, good looking (i really don't like the ones that are stiff ... a bit like laptop bags actually) and affordable (poor student D:)

Thus, i finally faced my fears this holiday season and decided to design/sew my own messenger.

i also made a zipper pouch i made for disguising pads Tongue (didn't want a separate topic)

here are some specs about the messenger:

size: 16.5" x 12" x 4.5" (it's so perfectly huge, i can carry so much in it Smiley)
fabric: heavy (broke a needle!) brown canvas & awesome rainbow zebra cotton (medium or heavy... not too sure)
time: about a week... probably about 3 days of solid work.

this tutorial was really helpful to me for making those pesky zipper pockets.

the bag is your basic messenger but with the top zipper "set in" the edges (i have fears about things falling out ... which turned out to be valid when my mp3 fell out into the subway tracks last year Sad)

if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask and i'll try my best to answer Smiley thanks for looking and have a good day (or night)!
