9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Re: Paints to use for dollhouse? on: February 17, 2008 12:55:47 PM
Expensive acrylic paint in a tube is not meant to be used for painting on wood. Craft paint is designed to do just that. If you want to paint a dollhouse with a tube of $6.00 or more liquid plastic, knock your self out. I'm sure you could do the trick with 10 or 20 tubes.

DON'T DISS THE CRAFT PAINTS!!
When I first started making dollhouses I only used the expensive fancy acrylic paints in a tube liquitex, Golden.  Because thats what fine artists use and there expensive so they should be good..right?? But then I decided to try the craft acrylics and found out they are much better suited for painting wood, polymer clay and altogether much more superior than the expensive paints. Those fancy paints have a plasticy shiny look and should be used for painting on cavases not dollhouse miniatures. I found that the craft paints had a nice matte finish and much better consistency and you didn't have to mix it with water. Best of all theres hundreds of colors and you don't have to worry about mixing and matching the paints. Don't ever use regular house paints you buy at the hardware store because they are too thick and it will look gloppy. I've been making miniature for over ten years check my photos out at my flickr.
