31  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Magazine Roll Box on: May 07, 2011 08:16:18 AM
So, I finally decided to put my old shoeboxes to use and give this tutorial a whirl that I found when browsing the web the other day..

The completed project!

This is the shoebox after I decorated the inside (with all of my paper scraps, so this project is 100% recycled with nothing left over!)  My cat wanted to help, so he pressed down the glued papers on the inside   Tongue

The inside of the box.  You can see the sides of the rolls.  Some of the rolls were higher than the sides of the box, but I think it makes it look more abstract/artsy that way!

My next project is my boyfriend's phone box.  I got the inside and sides done...

Now, I'm debating on whether or not to just paint the top of the box or add some more rolls to it.

And here is the link to the tutorial.  http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-make-urban-outfitters-recycled-magazine-holder-376731/

I've found other tutorials for this project, but this was the simplest and funnest one I've found!

Thanks for looking!

Luckily they're all torn apart so they are hard to read...but up close, it looks really cool having that small block-like print scattered all over

What an awesome idea!  Its definitely a fun way to "get the message across" to everyone in the house!

So, I bought this cabinet from a flea market for $5!

I really liked the black paint because it was already sanded down and looked antiqued in a way around the edges, so I opted out of repainting it...Instead I decoupaged over the black and made it a 70s theme from old National Geographic Magazine images....and here is the final outcome!

Sorry the pics aren't the greatest...

the front

The top

Both sides I did with the ads in the back of the magazines.

Give them to me so I can decoupage my coffee table with something nice to look at Smiley

No, but seriously, decoupaging them onto something like a table where people can look at them is a really great idea.

If not, make a picture book with them out of an old book...I love old pictures because I always love looking at them and thinking of the story behind them.  A collage would look awesome, too!

I don't know how this would look or how easy it would be, but I see it painted and put some paper flowers in the tape part?  I haven't thought it out fully but I think that would look cute and fun!  Or I saw a tutorial online a while ago where a woman used it for her ribbon...
38  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Empty Glitter Pens? on: March 23, 2011 11:29:23 AM
I like the necklace idea!

The glitter is thick and gloppy inside, and I noticed that if I leave them open to dry the glitter out, it disappears!  I might try the pencil jar idea or maybe make some sort of cute mobile with all of the glitter still inside...I think as a suncatcher type thing, the glitter will look cool!

if you are planning on doing mosaic...I'm wondering if gluing them to a surface then using A LOT of acrylic sealer to soften any rough edges and add layer to the breaks would work?

Yeah I definitely see those being used for pictures! Or really cool wall art maybe?  If you paint them all different colors, I think it would look cool arranged on a wall as a 3-D piece of art!
