24  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / old School projects. on: July 08, 2008 09:18:08 PM
well not too old but old enough to be old.

first we'll tackle the 10th grade school project: The Julius Caesar Theme Park.
in 10th grade English, you read Julius Caesar. The teacher gave us an assignment sheet with about 10 different projects on it for us to choose from. The one project was actually a brochure for a Julius Caesar Theme Park. I decided i was far too cool to just do a brochure so i made the whole theme park. The park is the size of a foam posterboard. I used various Wal*Mart craft supplies such as felt, paint, Crayola Magic Mold, wooden dowels, wooden bits. It took me 14+ hours in the span of 5 nights to complete. It was a bitch to carry onto the bus but i got a 100% on it so i guess it was worth it.

The park itself was divided into the 5 acts with the ride names being fashioned after something that had happened in that scene. There was even a kiddie section with a Trojan Horse because i just wanted to make one. Onto the pictures.

Entrance:

Artistic Shot:

the tallest ride, The Soothsayer, is about a foot tall if not bigger.

Left Side:

Acts 1-3.

Right Side:

Acts 4-5 + Kiddie Land

Now 11th grade year, we had a jerk of an English teacher. We had this project for a whole grading period called an ABC Book. Basically you read a book and then pick elements out of the book, one for each letter of the alphabet. You had to have descriptions and pictures. I only got an 87% or something on it? I recieved a B. I wasn't too happy considering i had about 3 weeks to make it when everyone else had 9 (its a long story). The main reason i did so poorly was because i used newspaper as a background and it was "distracting" and it confused the teacher because she wasn't sure if it had a purpose or not. My purpose was to make the pages look uniform. Splatter painting played a huge part in this. The whole thing is made out of poster board, paint, glitter, and ribbon. Plus whatever else is on the individual pages.

I read Life, The Universe, and Everything. I only took pictures of my favorite pages because i didn't feel 29 pictures would be appropriate.

Cover:

the green orb with a pie chart labeled "Life, The Universe, and Everything" and he is wearing glasses because he is a scientist

Back Cover:

notice the "Don't Panic" because you have to when discussing The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

The Introduction:

the paragraph explains that the following entries were found in Arthur's bathrobe and satchel. (see. more creative then anyone else. i know for a fact)

H is for:

the Heart Of Gold

M is for:

Marvin

S is for:

Sofa (this one was my favorite because of the shape of the sofa. so simple and complex at the same time)

U is for:

the Universe

X is for:

Xenophobe

Z is for:

Zaphod Beeblebrox. (i drew him myself. hardest thing ever.

26  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / mocktail anyone? on: July 06, 2008 09:24:52 PM
so twice i have written a beautiful paragraph explaining my problem and twoce my computer has erased it.   Angry
lucky try number three?

so i decided that this summer i was going to host a mocktail party. (age 17. so cool right? Wink)
i got all hardcore on research and found that a theme was highly suggested.
here's my dilema: i such at themes. they are always cliche or cheesy or both.
could you wonderful craftsters out there give me inspiration?

basically: mocktail theme ideas anyone?

p.s.: if it helps i have already decided that i am most likely just serving munchies and the mocktails.
27  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / 1st dress of summer on: June 12, 2008 09:32:31 PM
i made this dress using $1 Wal*Mart fabric, a $1 Simplicity pattern (i forget the exact one. its downstairs and i am too lazy to go look), and about one evening of time. i was originally making it to wear to the school's After Prom but i got the material a little too late for that. since i am in the band and had to play for graduation, that is what this turned into. i finished it the last day of school so first dress of summer? i think so. now to the pictures

full dress.

full dress with pulled out skirty part?

fabric and lace detail.

because i hate hate HATE hemming. i put lace around the bottom and didnt deal with it.

tomorrow i plan on making the second dress of summer.
comments and criticism welcome.
28  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / 17th birthday? on: March 11, 2008 11:57:32 AM
so in one month and one week i will be turning 17.
i didnt have a huge special 16th birthday party so now i want to do something extra special aka themed
i was wondering if you girls (and guys) could help with the whole idea thing.
i already looked around here some but nothing caught my eye.

i already thought of:
kid themed [little kid shows and the cliche party games](because it will be my last year as a child)
murder mystery (because i want to)
craft type theme (but my friends really dont... craft)

but i kind of want something dark and morbid (the clue/murder mystery theme)
no matter what, a costume will be asked to go with the theme.

so...please help if you can?

30  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 24 ENTRIES / Zine Machine (aka spiffy new typewriter)[img overload] on: February 05, 2008 05:52:36 PM
One of my resolution for this year is to finally start a zine.
i have been wanting to start one for a little over a year now but everytime i get going something happens that completely throws me off track.
Well NOT anymore.
i bought this book called Stolen Sharpie Revolution. it is a zine on how to make a zine and it suggests using a typewriter for the actual zine. I thought this was a nifty idea.
But me, being the "thats mine back off" kind of girl that i am just could not stand to use my mother's old ugly blue typewriter. i took a visit to the local thrift store. it was my lucky day. They had about 8-10 electric typewriters for $2 each. I just could not pass that up.
I picked the best one, called it my own, and paid $2.20. It was rather ugly though (all of them were. poor dears) and with it being ugly i decided i wouldn't use an eyesore much.
That is where my resolution and challenge entry comes in.
I decided that by making it beautiful i would leave it out and then feel guilty for not using it therefore causing me to finally get my zine career underway.

I now present my new (well... kind of) beautiful typewriter.

look at that beast. its HUGE!

Closeups of finished bits.

The side. Mod Podged encyclopedia again. plus black spraypaint.

MAKING OF pictures.

In the final steps.

Hope you all enjoyed it.
and good luck on your resolutions everyone.
