My local framing shops have given me scrap matboard for free -- sometimes in big chunks, like 11 x 14 even -- and this is great for collaging/drawing on... it's so much more solid than paper, you feel like a real artist.

Glad you find it interesting!

The text was done earlier, just using the more basic Windows Paint program, using "stretch/skew" to distort the text, with black splatters where it had gotten moved unevenly, and a whole lot of changing individual pixels there (and on the photo edge) to make things ragged.

I also did some blurring/sharpening and playing around with contrast levels in the photograph so that the eyes and the rope would look right (that sounds disturbed, doesn't it?).

And then in the afternoon I got Photoshop for the 1st time and was on for hours -- it is kind of addictive -- but settled on something simple in the end, using "sharpen edges" in the sharpen filter selection to add to the messiness, plus "ink outlines" in the brushstrokes filter selection.

It's strange trying to make something uglier.

An earlier discussion about posting this & what I'm hoping to say starts round the middle of p.3 of: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=145448.0

And, um, happy valentines!

Er, well, when you see my amore card you might think I was channelling Kaos b/c it has some elements in common with a project she'd done in art school -- there were some details of it up on this board earlier.

Very heartening to read all this and to think I might be prayed over... Wink
