1  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Do I Really Need The Batting? on: July 27, 2005 04:39:40 AM
I'm making quilts for my two best friends to help get rid of the whole big plastic container of scraps I have in my sewing room. But I was sitting down there today thinking about it and the whole point of the project is not to have to buy anything more. I started hunting through my containers and found a ton of flannel. Would it be possible for me to use the flannel as the only backing or would I need to use batting too? I live in Hawaii and it's pretty hot all the time. I don't want to make them anything that they're not going to use because it's too warm. One of my mom's friends suggested sandwiching the flannel in between my front and the plain back I was going to use. Any suggestions?
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Cute Little Earrings on: October 19, 2004 05:13:04 AM
I was watching Jewelry Making on DIY a few days ago and suddenly got the idea to go play with beads and make something. I tried the chandelier earrings, but they didn't come out too good. But the second type I made came out really cute.

Once I get more beads I'll try some other stuff.
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / I Made A Skirt! on: June 12, 2004 03:00:28 AM
I know it's no big deal considering I've had my sewing machine for about a year and a half, but this is the first time that I've made something other than a blanket or a bag. I'm not sure if this would be reconstructed, though, because the top of the skirt is actually the bottom of an old long skirt that I hacked the bottom off of to make it a short skirt. Then I just added fabric to the bottom to make a new skirt.
