Beautiful and meaningful...the best kind of art!
2  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects / Having a Heatwave--needed new pjs on: May 25, 2010 12:41:23 AM
Suddenly it's really hot here in the NE of the USA and I haven't got the energy to go to the basement and find my summer pjs.  So I thought I'd use up some of my stash and make some pjs.  I'm pretty pleased with the result--they are cute, cool and comfy.

I used McCall's 5640 for the top--added some length and width and Butterick 5216 for the shorts--adding the contrast at the bottom for length (so they don't ride up all night long) and pockets because, well, what isn't better with pockets?  All in all I'm pretty pleased with myself, and I have some fabric left so I'm going to make some slippers to match.

Thanks for looking.

Very cool!  I like the idea of making themed wrapping paper out of the innards!   I'm always feeling guilty for dissecting books for projects but now.....

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: vintage pillowcase to nightie & pantie set. sweet! on: April 21, 2010 09:47:04 PM
OMG--I had those exact same pillow cases (the first ones with the peach lace).  I made a skirt out of mine--now I wish I had saved them til I saw this!  Nice work and very creative!

Thanks!  The Library of Congress has a whole american images collection that are available online.  There are rules about using them (no sales, etc) but you can download them for private use.  The link for their main page is http://www.loc.gov/index.html  It's a huge site, so just search around
8  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / From Tidy Cat to Hip Cat on: June 06, 2008 07:51:04 AM
I've been trying to reduce the amount of paper waste in my house, so I started using rags instead of paper towels.  It works great, but I don't have an extra drawer for the rags, so I've been storing them in an old Tidy Cat bucket.   The problem was that the litter bucket was really ugly and a blight on my fabulous 40s decorated kitchen.  So I decided to jazz it up a bit and I really like the result.  Some WWII poster reprints, some mod podge and voila--

Thanks for looking!
9  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: door (draft) stopper on: March 02, 2008 12:52:07 PM
I made them for my drafty old apartment using the tutorial posted by a lie mute in rum, but I used an old vinyl table cloth and stuffed it with used plastic store bags (which I had a ton of and needed to recycle anyway).  It works great and was free (well, except all the stuff I bought that came in the plastic bags to begin with!)
10  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / My 1st stuffed stuff ever--thanks for the inspiration! on: May 10, 2007 07:23:34 PM
I've been looking at all the great stuffed stuff y'all have been making and I was inspired to try my own.  From old tie to new snake (He's all tied up at the moment) and from old pajama bottoms to a new (very sassy) elephant--what do you think?
