1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Website shipping options on: January 25, 2008 09:02:31 AM
So.. I've had my site up for a few months, right?  I've had TONS of views, but no one has purchased anything.  So yesterday, while I was horribly bored at work, I decided to see if it was something in the checkout that was causing lack of sales.

I "purchased" a lip balm tub, which literally weighs 1/2 an ounce.  The checkout process was fine up until I got to the shipping section.  Oh wow... My choices were - $4.60, $6.29 and $19.50 for a $3.00 tub of lip balm!?!??!?!

My question is... If you own your own website (not an ebay store, yahoo store), what do you use for shipping?

1 Pack Elbow Macaroni
1 Small Can Tomato Sauce
1 Large Can Tomato Sauce
1 Small Can Diced Tomato
1 Yellow Onion
1 White Onion
1 Red (Purple) Onion
1 Large Green Pepper
1 Large Red Pepper
1 Large Yellow Pepper
1 Large Orange Pepper
3 Stalks Celery
1 Can Whole Kernel Corn
2 Lbs Hamburger
1 Tablespoon (or to taste) Hot Sauce - I recommend Dave's Insanity Sauce

Cook up noodles first.  Drain noodles, toss back into huge pot.  Pour Lg Tomato sauce in.  Add Spices (I use Mrs. Dash - Table Blend and Mrs. Dash - Extra Spicy) Add Hot Sauce.

Dice all vegetables while meat is frying, add everything else and let sit on stove (or crock pot) for an hour.

I'm eating mine now, and ZOMG is it good Cheesy

6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Fed up with Etsy? on: June 17, 2007 06:56:22 AM
I'm pretty much done with the site, and I've cut my prices so I can clear out my inventory.  I'm not listing anything new or renewing any of my expired items.

Here's why:

1.  When they released V2, they ruined the Christmas selling season.
2.  They're charging more for less time when the site doesn't even work 1/3 of the time.
3.  They're throwing all these big parties, when most of us can't go, and  the site isn't working properly.
4.  The constitution.
5.  A severe lack of nice people in the forums.  I can barely stand to go there anymore.
6.  Overrun with Bath & beauty.
7.  Whenever there is a discussion of bath & beauty in the forums, it always comes down to people bashing melt & pour soaps.
8.  This is the straw that broke the camels back - "It may take a *few days* for items to show up"  Are you kidding me?  I pay money for a site that barely works, when there are plenty of sites that work better?

So yea, I'm sick & tired of being abused over there.
