1  California / California: North / Brand New At San Francisco! Looking for some info... on: August 31, 2007 02:07:29 PM
So guys, I'm Raquel and brand new fashion design student at The Academy of Art in San Francisco. I just moved here (A couple of blocks away from Union Square and that area) and I'm looking for some cool and/or crafty places to go to, entertain myself, in walking distance, and on a budget.

So far I've been to Britex fabric store and loved it. I wanted the go to the Craft Gym, but 45$ bucks a lesson?

So does anyone know any good places or tips and tricks for a newbie at San Francisco? Please?
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / My New Coat. Featuring Tweed, a Peter Pan Collar, a Pleat, and much more.... on: July 30, 2007 08:57:41 PM
I don't have a good name for this creation yet.

I designed and sewed this coat during my last days of high school. I had been eyeing the tweed fabric in my teacher's stash since the beginning of the year and I finally had the chance to use it.
I drafted the pattern and sewed it myself.
The coat includes a peter pan collar, small pleat on the back, blue lining, three pockets (one is hidden on the inside), blue button holes, and big round black buttons, and gathered sleeves.

It is one of the most difficult, yet best things I've made. Now you guys need to tell me what you think! Ready...Set...Go!

4  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / A Locher's Dirty Embroidery Homage-"I Heart Porn" on: June 09, 2007 09:08:03 PM
I am in love with Locher's dirty embroidery. And I mean in LOVE. I am so intrigued by the idea that something looks innocent, girly, and cute at first glance...but futher observation proves otherwise.
Soooooo, I decided to create a top inspired by their "I Heart Porn" shirt, seen here: http://www.lochers.com/collection8.html.
My top started off as a plain green, I added the pastel yellow stencil, created by me, and the yellow lace trim for added innocent-ness.

I bought a whole heap of pastel shirts and tops to create into Locher inspired pieces. Next I'm going for the "I Hate Children", seen here:http://www.lochers.com/collection14.html I love it!
P.S. Thanks to this thread for opening my eyes to Locher: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=169708.0
Disclaimer: I don't love porn. I've never even seen one...not that there is anything wrong with the adult film business.
Disclaimer II: I don't hate children.

What do you guys think?
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Black and Silver Empire Waisted Prom Dress on: June 05, 2007 11:37:59 AM
Prom was about a month ago, so this is kind of late. Here is my beautiful prom dress. Triangle top, empire, gathered at the waist, silver band, fully lined dress. I made two days before the prom. It is the best thing I've ever made.
I am absolutely in love with the dress. It is also the most expensive thing I've made. A whole 30$! But it's still alot cheaper than a store-bought dress.
I went with my boyfriend(now ex Sad), sister, and other guy friend.

In conclusion, I am so proud of my prom dress. I have it hanging on the wall in my room because I love to stare at it.
P.S. I made sure the twins were secure in the top.Smiley
Do you guys like?

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / For the Fashion-Loving-Craftsters on: May 16, 2007 05:10:30 PM
I know there are tons of craftsters on here who just love fashion. They love to design it, wear it, or even just look at it.

I am one of these people.

Hows about a swap in which we each choose our favorite designers and swap [name of designer]-insired items. Wouldn't it be just divine to receive a necklace al-la Oscar De La Renta. Or a journal that's very Mocchino-esque?

I know making actual clothing items can be difficult, so we can trade items like accessories, purses, and that type of stuff.

Anyone?....Hello?......
8  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / The Rowdy Vamp... on: April 25, 2007 10:08:26 PM
I think this is too late due to the time zones. (Damn, those time zones always get me.) But here is my entry:

The Rowdy Vamp Stencil. I was flipping though some tattoo magazines, looking for some ideas, I saw a crown, and knew exactly what I wanted to do.

Here is the actual stencil:
Can you tell it's a crown? I used my screen name (Rowdy Vamp) in some cool tattoo-style letters, some super cool spider webs, stars, and a crown.

I don't know what to put it on yet so here she is spray painted onto a piece of paper:

What do you think? Done with an x-acto knife and pencil, drawn on an ice-cream cone box.
9  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Lick Your Face Off Moisturizing Mask on: April 01, 2007 06:47:48 PM
After the successful completion of all my April Fool's pranks on every one, (I told my mom my sister went to jail, told my sister she had received a big package from a guy, and told my boyfriend his mother called screaming at me.), and after prowling the Bath And Beauty board, I was inspired to create my own concotion for my extremely dry skin.

This is what I came up with. The Lick Your Face Off Moisturizing Mask. You'll really want to eat your face!

1 tbls.       Honey
1/4 cup.    Oatmeal
1 tsp.       Brown sugar
Enough water to make a paste

Mix the oatmeal, honey, and sugar. Then add small amounts of water at a time to create a paste. Rub it all over your face. And I mean, really pile it on. Leave it till it drys and wash off. Voila! Silky smooth skin, like a baby's bottom.

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / My Yellow Satin Dress on: February 09, 2007 06:15:07 PM
This was my 6 weeks assignment in my fashion design class. It was to make a tent dress. Well, I don't really like tent dresses all that much, so I asked my teach if I could change it up a bit. Little did she know.......Muah-ha-ha!!

I stayed with the tent dress idea.(A-line, seams down the middle) But, I made it empire waisted and babydoll-ish.

"Oh my god, do you love it?" is what my teacher says when we have completed a project.. Well, yes, I do love it!
