1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Interweave Spring 08 Cover top problem on: April 17, 2008 10:14:01 PM
Okay.. The top is adorable, and would be perfect for my best friend's wedding. It's Asian inspired and tentatively being held at Otakon, a huge anime convention, this summer. And I'm a groomsman in a dress, so I've got to look cute, yet somewhat match the bridesmaids, who are all supposed to be wearing cheongsams. (Bride's side is in blue, Groom's is in green, so I'm happy)

The only problem is that the top stops at 44" at the bust, and there is no way my boobs can shrink that much in just over 4 months Tongue. Has anyone else figured out what tweaks need to be made to increase it a bit? Worse comes to worse, I'll have to make myself a dress form and figure it out the long way, or actually learn how to sew fabric to something other than yarn *gasp!* and make a cheongsam that will actually fit.

Thanks in advance for any help y'all have!
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Teaching little brother to crochet?? on: September 01, 2007 04:03:00 PM
Hey, ltns, everyone.
I just moved back east to live near my family, and my little brother has expressed an interest in learning to crochet. I have just a couple of problems:
1) I'm right handed and he's left handed
and 2) He's ADHD with a mild case of autism. Getting him to stay still long enough to learn how to make a chain might be difficult.

I really want to teach him right. He saw a dragon amigurumi I started and he wanted to make one, too. I figured I'd start him on dishcloths, then a scarf, then the animals.
3  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Possible hackage on: April 16, 2007 05:25:48 PM
Whenever I go to the Crochet-along listing, after about 15 seconds, it refreshes with the following site http://www.firststreetonline.com/category.jsp?id=55867&promotion=81996&gclid=CI2QkLC_yIsCFScrYQod2H-2EQ

I don't know if it's happening to other pages, but I thought I'd let y'all know.
4  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Anyone Hear of this yarn? Etc.. on: March 14, 2007 01:36:31 AM
Went to Goodwill today, almost didn't. Ended up coming out with a new watch, a couple of books, and CRAPLOADS of yarn. One bag being a mix of homespun and the red heart knock off, but the other bag of this funky yarn apparently only sold by this one store down in LA.

Anyone ever hear of Super Yarn Mart! ? And do they know happen to know the properties of the line, Ice Yarn?. It comes in a folded skein, not a ball, and is HUGE. The only information on the label is as follows:

"Fine Ply All Purpose Art Needlework Yarn
Net Wt 9.5 oz
ICE YARN can be fun and at the same time cut your needlework costs in half, all you need is patience! These simple instruction will open the door to a whole new world of pleasure for the serious minded needle-crafter.
Insert instructions on how to unfold and wind into a ball, Steps 1-5. Balls should be the size of a grapefruit. With how much I wound in a small ball without a swift or winder over about an hour and a half, I think the entire skein would be that size.
#6 Whether you are using 2,3, 4, or more strands, you will find that ICE YARN automatically twists together by the time the yarn reaches your needle. This will enable you to knit or crochet without the problem of "splitting".
Try a swatch, check your guage, and off you go...
Good Mileage!"

There was another Super Yarn Mart bag of yarn that I picked up that actually had what the yarn was made out of (acrylic, but it has the texture of a VERY thin chenille). The Ice Yarn seems to be 2ply, and is about the same thickness as your standard doiley cotton... But the textures between the three colors in the bag is significant. The light purple is baby soft, the navy blue a bit more standard, and the red-orange is so rough.. it's like acrylic's red headed stepchild. It gives a little when you crochet with it, and I'm going to take it into my LYS to get it wound into balls at my SNB, but I won't know what to make out of it til I know what it is. *shrugs*
5  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / soft gray lacey hat on: January 14, 2007 06:45:28 AM
This is my new hat, being modeled by my jar of salsa con queso..

It is my first time designing something/going utterly without a pattern, and it was so much fun!
I made it lacey so I could peek my pigtails through:

And here is a close-up of the pattern:

And now my older sister is demanding one, with a brim, so I need to figure out how I did this... and figure out the brim thing. *tosses spool of wire into yarn bag*
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Favor help, please on: January 04, 2007 03:54:06 AM
I've been working, off and on, on a favor for one of my guy friends for while he does sword bashing at ECS events. I have 3 corners done, and I'm leaving the upper corner blank so he can use it to tuck into a belt or something, but there's this HUGE empty space and I don't know what to put in it. I tried drawing out a wolf's head, but it just looked odd and kind of clashed with the roses I have decorating the corners.
I used flower language, with a red and yellow rosebud in the east and west corners to symbolize friendship and love, but with thorns, since we have a history of going at each others' throats Tongue, and the south corner has a dusty rose in full bloom, and a couple of rosebuds in dusty colors, as my symbol. His totem animal is the wolf, and I can't use his coat of arms because it hasn't been approved by the person in charge, because of some big heirarchal doohicky happening in the ECS in our area screwing everything up.
I'm using standard embroidery floss on this silvery gray silk I got off the remnants table. It's gorgeous!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If I can find all the pieces, I'll put pictures up later, so you understand my description better.
