1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / White Summer Dress, Black Embroidered Flowers, pics on: June 09, 2008 11:43:47 AM
My daughter asked me to sew her a dress for her grade nine grad.  Considering I had only sewn from a pattern once before in my life, I didn't feel too confident that it would turn out, but wanted to give it a try.

I couldn't be happier with how things did turn out.  The dress fits, it looks great, AND best of all, she likes it.

I had to take the zipper out three times and redo it to get a placement that worked for her, but it was worth it.

I also altered the pattern very slightly (it's a New Look pattern, don't have the number handy but if someone wants it, I'll go find out).  The pattern only calls to line the top half of the dress, but I lined the skirt as well.  I added extra loops to hold the ribbon, and we didn't sew the ribbon in place so she can move it and tie it wherever she wants.  Also, we chose to use ribbon for the straps and had them tie behind the neck instead of just putting white straps over the shoulders.

Sorry for the quality of the photos.

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Cute Cherry Print Summer Top on: June 03, 2008 05:58:03 PM
I used the Eight Dollar Dress How-To on BurdaStyle.com (http://www.burdastyle.com/howtos/show/724) to make this summer top for myself.  This is the second piece of clothing I've ever sewn, so I'm pretty pleased.  I think it turned out pretty good.

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Day of the Dead Makeup Bag on: May 15, 2007 12:18:16 AM
I sewed one of these for my daughter and myself, and we use them all the time for our makeup in the bathroom.

I decided to make a new one out of Day of the Dead fabric and I think it looks not too bad.

I'm out of vinyl for the linings so I'm going to have to hit the fabric store (a nice excuse to buy lots of other fabric while I'm there)

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) Purse on: May 06, 2007 01:17:08 AM
I've spent a lot of time in Mexico and I've really fallen in love with the crafts and artwork for Dia de los Muertos, the day of the dead.

I decided to hand embroider a purse with a Day of the Dead Mexican skull, and then lined it with a DotD printed cotton.

I think it turned out pretty cool.

5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / The UBER-Spring Purse on: April 26, 2007 01:13:23 AM
I found a vintage pillow case with a lovely flowered print at the GoodWill one day, and decided to turn it into a purse.

Strangely, I would never carry a purse like this, and yet I think it's SO cute!

I also put my new embroidery skills to good use and hand embroidered the outer pocket.

My boyfriend and I joked with my teenage daughter that if she was bad, we'd make her carry this purse around with her to school all week! hehehe!  She didn't like that.

6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Sushi Purse/Tote on: April 26, 2007 01:04:11 AM
I wanted to share a photo of a purse I just finished this week with a fabric I was dying to use!

It's sushi fabric and I LOVE it.

I was super pleased because this is the first time I sewed a purse and absolutely nothing went wrong.

It's a square tote style bag with a red lining, and a button closure at the top.

7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Jordy plus wallet, new pics *lots*, canvas on: February 09, 2007 09:34:15 PM
I took some better pics of my latest Jordy and I also made a wallet, so I thought I'd switch up the images here.

It's hard to tell in the images, but the wallet has one large black pocket, and on the other side are two pockets.

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Boxy Makeup Bags on: January 15, 2007 02:57:08 PM
Using the tutorial by alvan, http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=137930.msg1356280, I made these two cosmetic bags.

They are lined on the inside with white vinyl and about the size of a square kleenex box.

10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Vinyl Cosmetic Bag: First Attempt on: January 11, 2007 12:24:25 AM
I needed a new bag for my makeup but couldn't find one in the store that I liked.  I was near a fabric store and decided that I would sew one for myself instead.

I used the following tutorial (thank you so much alvan for your great tutorial):
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=137930.msg1356280

I messed up the seams on one side of the zipper, but next time I know I'll get it right!  At least now I have a bag for my makeup that won't spill it's contents all the time as the zipper was broken on my old one.
