1  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Lots and lots of crocheted toys! (Lots of pictures too) on: June 07, 2010 02:35:07 PM
I've been crocheting like a crazy person lately with custom crochet toys.  I'm pretty happy with how they've been turning out, and it's great to get the practice in!

I work from my own patterns, which sometimes can be the most annoying part, but I always feel like I've accomplished something when I'm finished.

Now onto the pictures!  Pictures are in thumbnails, so you can click to make it bigger.

Red Panda (one of my favorites, I seriously didn't want to ship this because I wanted to keep it!):

I've made a ton more, but these are some of my favorites.  I figure too, this is a great way to destash my yarn!

Congratulations!! I know your wedding seems like it's far away, but it's going to catch up with you faster than you'd think.

The Christmas in July theme is super adorable! Obviously, right around/right after Christmas is the best time to pick up decorations for the reception (and is actually just about right on the suggested timeline to take care of decor), but I would keep an eye out for ornament sets that perhaps have a more "summery" feel to the color scheme - rather than just the stereotypical green and red.
I think a great idea for the cake topper would be to affix small ornaments on a base and maybe mix it in with smaller summertime trinkets, like seashells - maybe even top it with your monogram. Again, I would avoid the red and green color scheme and opt for elements of Christmas like wrapped gifts as your centerpieces/favors, maybe in metallic pinks and blues and silvers.
Bridesmaids gifts are easy! If your sister is willing to help you make jewelery, go for it! Make sure it's something that will match their dresses and go from there.
If you're in to the "ring a bell for a kiss" tradition, get jingle bells and tie them with ribbon in your colors!

And I would make sure your DJ plays "A Christmas Gift to you from Phil Spector" during the receptions - it's a VERY wedding-friendly Christmas album with nothing but cute Motown Christmas songs - and play the Charlie Brown Christmas album during cocktail hour. Smiley

Thank you for the ideas!  And yes, there will not be red and green Smiley  I'm thinking about like a smoky blue and purples with like crystals so I guess more like a winter feel.  I love the idea of using ornaments for decor!!  I'll have to keep my eye out for some good ones this Christmas season!  And I think everyone will love the Charlie Brown Christmas songs (I watch that show every year, it's tradition!)

That's one of the most amazing free projects I've ever seen! Let's see. I have yarn. LOTS of yarn.  I have the ability to print out sheet music. I have a few empty photo frames and we won't even talk about how many empty cereal boxes there are here.  Why didn't I think of this when I have everything sitting here???

Thanks for the great idea!  Hope you don't mind if I duplicate it!

I dont mind at all!  It was really easy to make Smiley  Post a picture if you do make one!!

Thanks for the comments everyone Cheesy

I am so proud of these!  I was inspired by Silvana's wedding invitations (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=342865.0)

These are above my bed.  That wall has been empty and blue for the past 10 months and I've been wanting to decorate it forever but I have no money, so I figured I'd make something with stuff I already have.

The black frames were from painting canvases from a stupid painting class I had to take in college (we had to pay $500+ for supplies just to learn how to paint squares).  I ripped the canvases off and there was a nice wood frame that I painted black.

The birds were fun to make.  I found bird silhouettes on Google that I liked, printed them out to use as a stencil.  I then traced the silhouette onto a Cheerio box and cut them out.  For the music on the birds, I first coffee dyed the paper so it isn't just white.  When the paper dried I printed piano sheet music onto them, which were cut into strips and glued to the birds.  The birds were then hot glued to the frames and I used wooden dowels glued to the back of the birds for extra support.

At this point I thought I was done, but it looked too empty, so I stapled yarn to the frames which gave them a birdcage feel.

I then stapled black lace to hang the frames by, and added a bow to hide the screw that was used to hang them up.

So technically I didn't have to pay for anything (right now, I did earlier), so it was free art!  I am in love with these Smiley

8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Wedding Craft Ideas on: April 06, 2010 03:33:41 PM
Thank you for the great ideas!  I can't wait to marry him Smiley

We will have been together for 7 years in September and we couldn't be happier!  He is truly my best friend (we've see each other pretty much everyday for the past 7 years, and we miss each other even if we're away from each other for only a half an hour!)

I'm lucky that I have a crafty sister-in-law who knows how to sew and jewelry making (I was a bridesmaid in her and my brother's wedding and she made all our jewelry).

And commenting on what Radmom said about it being about us, yes I agree!  We're getting married in July, but I've always wanted a winter theme wedding, so we're have a "Christmas in July" wedding Smiley

I will post pictures as I craft!
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Wedding Craft Ideas on: April 05, 2010 11:21:12 PM
A couple of Fridays ago (March 26th) my boyfriend surprised me by proposing!!

The wedding isn't until July 2011, so we have time to plan, and I have time to craft Smiley
I'm looking for ideas on what I can craft for the wedding, but nothing too hard so I don't spread myself too thin.

Here's what I've come up with to make:
-Ring Bearer Pillow
-Flower Girl Basket (or at least put ribbon on it to match the pillow)
-Bread Basket (the fiance and I are big bread lovers, so we're going to have a bread basket at our table)
-Wedding Cake Topper
-Bridesmaid's presents

What are some other fun/easy things I can make?

Now for pictures:

Ring (the picture doesn't do it justice.  It looks like a princess ring!)

You are very talented!  I love everything that you make and I hope when I have kids I can make them clothes that look like yours  Cheesy
