341  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / coke candles(made with pop cans as molds) on: November 27, 2006 12:05:57 PM
Hi everyone, I am a new member.  This is my first post, Im just trying to figure out how to do everything on here.

I dont know if anyone has seen these before, but they are candles made using a coke can as the mold.  The wax and wicks are completely recycled from candles i bought at yard sales.

I used an xacto knife to cut the top off of the can, then poked a small hole through the center of the bottom (big enough to stick the wick through)  then use some sort of clay or putty (i used poster putty)  to seal off the hole and keep the wick in place.

Then tie the other end of the wick to a dowel rod (or i used a pencil Smiley) and let it rest on top of the can.

After wax is melted (stove, microwave, or candle warmer-I've used all three) pour the wax into the can.  It takes a few hours for the wax to dry completely.

When the wax is dry cut a small snip in the top of the can to get you started, then peel the can off.  be careful when removing the bottom of the can because sometimes the bottom ring wants to chip off (you can tell thats what happened with the yellow one).

The bottom of the coke can now becomes the top of your candle, and youre finished.

I put buttons in the bottom of the yellow one, and for the blue and white one, i used cut up chunks of another candle, then poured the white wax around it.

well if you guys have already seen this done, im sorry if i bored you. Im a newbie...lol.

348  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / earplugs? on: November 21, 2006 11:25:45 AM
I work in a factory part time till i get through college, and we are required to wear earplugs.  We have all different brands that are different colors, and i just cant bring myself to throw them away because there must be something that can be done with them.  Does anyone have any ideas?  they are foam earplugs.
