Staramber-

The heart double snap is so cute!  I really like your banner.  It looks professionally made.  I think your photos are a little on the dark side.  Maybe you can brighten the photos?

Good luck!

Keely- your pictures don't do justice to your pendants!  As msalowishus said, natural light is the way to go.  I would keep looking until you find a place with good lighting.  Another suggestion for your photos- you have a lot of wasted white space in your pics... why not take closer photos so that the detail on your pendants is easier to see or crop your pics before you upload them?

good luck!
6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: How's your Etsy shop doing now? on: June 17, 2007 10:08:57 AM
When I opened my etsy store 3 weeks ago I sold my first item on my first day and thought "Wow what a great start! I'm going to be a hit!".. but then nothing happened until today- a buyer bought 3 passport covers! (but has not paid for them yet)

So my question is...
What is your procedure for customers who do not pay immediately?  (My first sale was a perfect buyer and paid immediately)

I state in my store policies that payment should be made at the time of the sale or else they should email me to let me know when I can expect payment.  Also, my policy says I do not ship until I receive payment.

For those of you who have purchased on etsy before- Do you receive an email from Etsy or Paypal asking you to pay?  When do you receive it?
Do I need to email the buyer and ask for payment?  Should I wait a couple of days?

THANKS!

I hope I hope I hope this is a true sale!!!!!  That would totally make my summer!

I'd wait a day or two. If you still dont get payment just send a friendly reminder. Point out that Etsy's purchasing process can be misleading and you have to pay through paypal separately.

I hope it works out. Your stuff is really lovely!

Thank you mommys little badass for your suggestion.  I sent the buyer a (very nice) email just like you suggested and she replied that she did not want to purchase the items at this time.  It must have been a newbie mistake since she just joined etsy the day she came to my store.  I have reported these to admin so hopefully I can get my fees back.  Sucks that this wasn't for real but I guess it had to happen to me some time...

I have received all of my items!

a kawaii deer pocket mirror from hertrigger,
an elegant crocheted bookmark from simply,
an intricate necklace from djsemira for my mum,
a cute needle book from sewinglori,
and yummy doughnut cell phone charms from kishcrafts.

Could my swap partners post pics of what they sent me?  I drove up to Vancouver right after I received my last package and forgot to take pics of everything before I left.

THANK YOU!!!!

fluffybaka, you have a lot of cute things!  Here are some things I thought of that might bring in more business.  (All advice is based on my own research, and not on my minuscule sales)

-Your photos are on the dark side.  This can be easily fixed in photoshop or retaking in natural light on a nice sunny day.

-Instead of listing all of your items on the same day at the same time, try listing   on different days or on the same day at different times like 1 per 2 hours or 1 per day.  This way when people look at new items that have been posted using the time machine, you'll reach a larger audience and be able to get more views if not sales.

-The avatar debate: some people say a pic of yourself is more friendly, but if you post a lot in the forums having a pic of something you sell is business-friendly.  People in the forum will only see your name, avatar and what you wrote.  Your name and what you wrote does not tell people what you have to offer (unlike some people who might be called e.g. Annie'sJewelry then it's pretty obvious what they are selling), so your only way to draw forum readers to your shop is from your avatar pic

-If you want to make your shop seem more friendly on a personal level and stress that you are a real person opening a shop, instead of putting a pic of yourself as your avatar maybe you could write something in your profile?  I think its fun to read profiles...

-International buyers like to read item descriptions that have cm/mm measurements, not just inches.

-Not that important but I think the watermelon needs watermelon seeds  Tongue

My 2 6 cents   Grin

Goodluck!
