Thanks!
Yeah, the ideas are endless.  I could keep adding to the trunk, no problem... I have had to cut myself off!  She had a baby a few months ago so I keep thinking that I want to make a "Muggle" onesie and throw that in there too.  And there are any number of cool things you could borrow from the HP swaps (I totally lurked on those for ideas).

It is more fun to think of your own though Smiley  You could fill the trunk just with homemade goodies based on stuff from Honeydukes and Weasley's Wizard Wheezes!
3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / A Very Harry Birthday (Image Binge!) on: July 08, 2009 07:24:42 AM
One of my good friends turned 27 on the 1st, and I've been feverishly working on her birthday present since... ummm... the 30th. Smiley  But it's OK; I won't see her until next week so I'm not actually late.  Anyway, I was inspired by a bunch of posts here to create a trunk of Harry Potter stuff for her, so here is the result:

And a closer look:

The wand was just made from that HP wand-out-of-paper-and-hot-glue tutorial (http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-an-awesome-Harry-Potter-wand-from-a-sheet-of-/)that has been floating around. Then I had some clear beads with gold and red swirls in them that I just threw in the box to make it seem extra special Smiley I wrapped the box with old Christmas wrapping paper and customized a label I found online.

This is the inside of the book, which I got at Hobby Lobby for half off. I carved the "Advanced Potions" into the front and filled it with silver paint... technically it should have been "Advanced Potion-Making" but my hand was tired, so I added an "S" and called it good Smiley I attempted a calligraphy-like font for the inside but it didn't work out so well.

Here's the back of the trunk with a SPEW sticker.  The other stickers (which you may or may not be able to see) include an Irish National Quidditch Team sticker and a "Weasley is our King" sticker on the front.

Here's one side of the trunk, which was hand-drawn in a joint effort between my husband and me. Smiley  I did the crest, the badger and the snake and decided that I couldn't do the raven and the lion properly, so he did those.

Other things from the box:
-An "Amorentia" potion bottle, bought at Hobby Lobby for $2, then I applied a label I photoshopped.
-A Marauder's Map, which you can download here... along with TONS of other HP craft and party ideas!: http://www.britta.com/hogwarts/Year6/prep/map/index.html
-A Howler, which is her birthday card.  Inside is a piece of parchment that looks like this:

I kind of want to keep it for myself! Oh, I'm also going to make her a cake bon bon (a little ball of cake dipped in chocolate) that looks like a snitch - I bought gold glittery sprinkles to coat the ball in and then I'm going to draw wings out of white chocolate and stick them in the sides.  But I won't make that until right before I give it to her.  I might update later when I make that.

So, that's it!  Oh, the trunk is just that cardboardy stuff you can buy at Hobby Lobby for super cheap.  I keep trying to "age" it to look more like wood but I don't think I've been entirely successful. Oh well!
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / The Killers swap? on: May 14, 2009 08:29:49 AM
Maybe this is way too specific, but would anyone else be interested in a Killers (the band) swap?  I'm mildly obsessed and I think channeling my obsessiveness into crafts would be a good thing.
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Father's Day / Need help with a gift idea for dad on: September 29, 2008 01:37:18 PM
My dad's birthday was, well, about 20 days ago.  I suck.  I called him on his birthday and I sent him a card, and I told him that the next time he is in town (we live a few hours apart) I would take him to dinner.  My mom wanted me to get him a bug deflector for his truck, but I don't know... I'm just not feeling that gift.  The problem is that I haven't seen him since his birthday so I haven't been able to take him to dinner.  And now I'm hearing from my mom that he's a little hurt that I haven't gotten him anything yet.

So, basically I suck and I feel REALLY bad and I want to do something special for him to make up for the fact that I haven't done anything yet.  He really does like when I make him things - I made him a quilt out of his old work jeans and some fabric that reflects his interests.  He *loved* that.

However... he's a hard one to nail down.  Like some of the other Craftster's dads on here, he's a redneck (Love him!!!  But he's a redneck).  He's very into NASCAR, Tony Stewart, craps and Jimmy Buffett.  He works on the railroad, so anything involving mousepads or trinkets for his desk or a tie wouldn't work.  Not even for home; he's completely computer illiterate.  Doesn't even e-mail. He's also trying to lose weight, so food gifts are out - in the past, I have made him fancy cheesecake and packaged it up nicely (it's his favorite).

I don't know what do!!  Help, Craftster Goddesses!!!

EDIT:
Since he works on his railroad, he is in his truck a LOT.  Sometimes with nothing to do - sometimes they are just sitting there waiting for a load of something to come in, sometimes they are waiting for the weather to clear up so they can do whatever to the tracks, etc.  So I'm thinking about, "Dad's Amusement Kit" and I could include Sudoku and crosswords and stuff like that, because he's really into that stuff.

But what else could I throw in there??

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Embroidered onesies for baby Sullivan! on: May 27, 2008 08:50:06 AM
I didn't read up before doing these, so I didn't use any stabilizer... pretty worried that they will pucker when I wash them =P  Anyway, here are the pre-washing pictures, so I can say, "They were pretty... once..."

Sullivan's parents have a boxer at home named Nelson, so this is my rendition of Nelson.

This one is sort of a long story, but it's for Sullivan's great-grandma.  I suppose I should have put "i heart great-grandma grunt" Smiley

Don't worry, I have since cleaned up the errant threads you can see through the onesie on the backside.

I have more, but this is all I have taken pictures of so far Smiley

I've been operating since.. Thursday, I think?  Less than a week.  And I've already had four orders!  I'm so excited =)  I'm just selling Christmas cards right now, but I'm already brainstorming cards for Valentine's Day.  Of course, I'm so new I haven't gotten any feedback yet, so hopefully the buyers aren't disappointed with the product =)
