1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Altered Barbie on: April 26, 2007 08:37:56 AM
I recently participated in a really fun mail art swap on nervousness.org where everyone involved created an altered Barbie and sent them to the host.  She's going to swap them out and send us each someone else's Barbie.  Here's a link to a photo of the one I made... for some reason I still can't get the hang of posting photos on here!  Roll Eyes

(Props to Jackie for the photo!)

I named mine "Winds of Change Barbie."  It's hard to tell from the picture, but all the little random scraps of paper stuck to her are magazine clippings and fortune cookie fortunes having to do with making changes, taking a new direction in life, etc.  I had a lot of fun with her.  I'll try to post another picture (or link!)  Tongue later of all the Barbies cruising in a car.  Smiley

2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Wedding Singer-themed bridal shower? on: April 09, 2007 02:49:30 PM
I had posted in this forum a while back looking for ideas for a picnic/outdoors-themed bridal shower for my sister, but kinda got bored with that idea, and somehow got the idea to do a "Wedding-Singer"-themed shower instead.  She and her fiance both love that movie, as do most people  in our circle of friends/family, so I think pretty much everyone would "get" the theme.  I'm thinking basically 80's everything, music of course, possibly karoke.  My other ideas include:

-a big glittery "Emma & Steven" sign on the wall, with those cheesy metallic streamers

-somehow incorporate "Table Nine," like maybe a smaller table where guests can sit when they're feeling "left out," or...?

-let the guests know they should dress up in 80's formal gear, or provide some stuff at the party (metallic vests, ginormous hair bows, etc.)

Any other ideas would be much appreciated!  Food, favors, games, etc.  Thanks!
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / ideas for mountains/outdoor-themed bridal shower on: February 19, 2007 03:22:23 PM
Hello all, I had posted this topic in the weddings/bridal showers section of Special Occasions, but it seems anything in that section that isn't related to weddings themselves doesn't get a lot of feedback, so I thought I'd try it over here.

My baby sister is getting married in August '07 and I would like to throw her a sort of outdoorsy/mountain-themed bridal shower because we live in Colorado and she and her fiancee are into rock climbing, camping and that kind of thing.  But, she's also very much a girly-girl (go figure) so I'd like to incorporate some of the more traditional flowery shower stuff, if that makes sense.

I was thinking maybe a wildflowers/picnic/vintage outdoor kind of thing.  Any ideas for food/favors/games/decorations?  So far the only real idea I have is a three-tiered cake decorated to look like a mountain, (luckily our sister-in-law is a cake decorator!) with rock candy and edible flowers and such.  Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I was thinking maybe a wildflowers/picnic/vintage outdoor kind of thing, but I don't want it to get too convoluted.  Any ideas for food/favors/decorations, and most of all, streamlining the theme?  So far the only real idea I have is a three-tiered cake decorated to look like a mountain, (luckily our sister-in-law is a cake decorator!) with rock candy and edible flowers and such, and maybe cute figurines at the top that look my sister and her intended (not a bride-and-groom, per se, more like dollhouse dolls in casual clothes).  Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!
