1  Re: 12 Days of Christmas 2008 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by hellobint on: November 07, 2008 04:28:53 AM
Woohoo so Day 12 is actually here!  and below is all the wonderful loot i got from iamafundork...

a big group shot...

Day 12 included matching stocking for me and bloke, with matching hooks.  A sparkly ribbon wreath for the door, christmas socks, some reese's peanut butter trees, a painted christmas photo frame and some wine glass charms.

Day 11!  The stationery day

in todays lovely package, we have - 5 button notelets (one small problem - i don't want to give them to anyone!  but i supposed i might be persuaded post xmas), a buttony stationery tin, a selection of stamps and mounting blocks, a mini stationery accessory kit and some 'K' post its!  Am I the only person who gets really excited to get things with their names or initials on?!

Day 10! My Garden day

loved today - combined two of my favourite things - buttons and gardening!  A lovely silver button planter which will look great on my kitchen windowsill, and is a perfect size for herbs; A tin of mixed flower seeds, to sew and see what comes up; leafy earrings; plant labels (love these and never seen any like this - like little blackboards, will be perfect for my veg), 2 flower picks (which i might use as stirrers!), a hand painted cherry blossom box and a set of martha stewart garden labels!  I've never actually seen any martha stewart stuff in england, so this will be cool - i think i'll use them to label the things i make with things out of my garden (jams and chutneys mainly!)

Day 9!  My pink day...

this one was so well thought through!  i opened day 9 on a wednesday - apparently in mean girls (which i haven't ever seen), the girls wear pink every wednesday.  Sounds like a fun tradition - now i need to see the film and make sure i wear something pink on weds!  but its ok as i now have lots of pink accessories...  Today i got a pink knitted clutch, pink hair clips, pink button brooch, pink and silver earrings, pink hairband, pink tissue cover, pink lip balm cosy (cool, i've never had a lip balm cosy!), pink sash belt and last (but definitely not least), a beautiful pink and silver necklace.

Day 8!  Christmas Coasters

Today's prezzy was a set of christmas coasters - with christmas trees on one side and festive red on the other!  i'm loving the wrapping by the way - for example, i have already resused the ribbon and tree button that tied up todays package!

Day 7!  Nibbler and Brain Slug

OK so I should confess that i actually shrieked when i opened todays package...  to see the most fabulous nibbler box!  iamafundork, how did you make it?  it looks like its tippexed but it is so accurate.  and then i opened the box and fell in love again - my own personal brain slug kit, produced by the queen of brain slugs, krissy kat!! so now i actually have some wool roving and kit to felt my own - fab!!

Day 6! Reduce Reuse Recycle (household)

So todays theme was reduce / reuse / recycle, all sorts of household bits that I would like to be able to reuse etc rather than buy.  I have a new lunchbag (I recently had to start taking my lunch into work and really needed a nice but practical size bag.  I really like this one as it will fold up small when not in use), a set of swiffer covers and a swiffer duster, a red bull tabs bracelet (already stolen by SO), fused plastic wallet (I think its target bags?  anyway he loves it and is already using it), two passport covers with 'thank you have a nice day' on (my SO always has issues with customs so maybe this may help!!), and a plastic bag knit purse.  another great day - thank you iamafundork!
___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ______________

Day 5!  Ani-mail...

So we went out last night and i chose to open this when i came home... i got ani-mail!  all things with my favourite animals on.  I got monkey cup cozies for me and the SO, turtle earrings, a lovely porcelain llama ornament from my wists (i have reused the ribbon from the wrapping to hang it on the tree!), a birdie tea towel (for some reason all my tea towels have disappeared), and finally my favourite - the hedgy love frame.  This was on my wist and iamafundork has reproduced it beautifully on a photo frame!  i've now got to find a worthy picture .... thank you, loving this swap!

Day 4!  Hat & Scarf Day

So today was a gift for me and the SO.  We both received matching hat and scarf set - mine was colourful, alex's had a fab bicycle embroidered on it.  thank you - both fab!

___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ___________________ ______________

Day 3!  Knitting etc Day...

So today's swag included a fab large patchwork bag (perfect for my knitting wool), a jar of whimsies (already raided - my favourite the turtle buttons) with a pin cushion on the top (i confess that it took me half an hour to get the top off - that would be a screw top then  Tongue ), and a needle roll with wool, needles and stitch markers.  Hours of fun to come!

Day 2!  Pyjamas...

my lovely treat on day 2 is a pair of pyjamas!  Spotty bottoms (ooer) and then a top decorated with flowers.  This is going to come in v handy on my holiday - thank you iamafundork!!

Day 1!  A Sewing machine table protector

Iamafundork made my big wish come true.  i wanted a table protector on which to put my sewing machine.  It needed to be padded as i am currently destroying my table!  it also has pockets for threads / scissors etc.  Thank you kara - its perfect!

2  my first felt - brain slug! in Felting: Completed Projects by hellobint on: November 01, 2008 12:11:05 PM
so i've loved krissykat's needle felted brain slug ever since i first joined craftster.  And after lusting after it for nearly two years, finally, i went on a needle felting course last week and immediately produced my own!!

OK, so its not so accurate to the futurama original, but i love him deeply.  And now I'm going to wear him all the time!   all comments welcome ...

3  Re: The Happy Housewife Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by hellobint on: September 16, 2008 12:39:53 PM
i'm glad it all got there safely pournami!  i can put up the pictures I took - they are not the greatest as they were just on my phone, but they give an idea ...

Firstly, the paintbrush holder...

Its designed so it can be hung on wall, with different sections for brushes and paints etc, or worn on a belt like so ...

Then, Pournami wanted a little something for her reading corner...

This can either be used as a mat or hung up on the wall.  Pournami particularly wanted things you couldn't get where she is, so the back is a tweed wool - unlikely to be found in India!!  Hence also the little thing...

London magnets!  Featuring the main tourist attractions in London....  hope you like it all pournami

4  Rocky the grizzly bear! in Knitting: Completed Projects by hellobint on: August 11, 2008 05:07:52 AM
ok, so i decided i wanted to learn to knit again.  i decided to start with the cute and fluffy rocky the grizzly bear!

He is knitted all in one piece (like a skin).  Unfortunately he is not very photogenic due to being massively fluffy (i actually had to give him a haircut once i'd finished as you couldn't see his legs!).  I've also ordered some eyes as you can't see the ones i stitched... If I did him again, I would use slightly less fluffy wool, and possibly put some rice or something in the feet to help him stand - he does stand now but has a tendency to topple!   He was great to learn with though as the fluffiness means you can't see any dropped stitches etc - a great practice piece!  What do you guys think?

5  Re: Craft My Wists-Summer 2008 Swap in The Swap Gallery by hellobint on: August 05, 2008 11:45:13 AM
so installment one of my lovely package from kookaloo starr (prepare to be jealous)...

beautiful cherry tree tote, with vintage buttons (i think she found my weakness - buttons, buttons, buttons, ho hum...)

Then second set of goodies - pink fat bottomed bag (all hand crocheted, so much work, i'm so jealous i can't do crochet!!), lovely tree card and some beautifully smelly handmade soaps!

I've already had people try to swipe the bags (i slapped the hands most firmly!)  I can't believe I still hve another package to come - thanks kook I love it all!!

6  decoupage pink flash trainers - pink and berry theme! in Shoes: Completed Projects by hellobint on: July 20, 2008 07:59:56 AM
ok so i know the world and his wife have decoupaged their trainers...  i've been meaning to do this for many months and finally got around to it!  Unfortunately i don't have 'before' shots, but think incredibly bashed up, hole-y, totally faded pink and white shoes.  I decided to stay with the pink theme and decorated them with flowers, pink berries and other things that i like!  i put a bit of glitter in the glue to add sparkle and when i put the laces back in, i ended up tying the bow on the side...

So a couple of learning curves for this one
1) it would have been a lot easier with a flatter surface - these had lots of random plastic pieces which were difficult to cut round or cover
2) a decent quality glue brush makes a big difference...

One problem i have had is that the decoupage has split away from the sole, so it doesn't sit flat - any ideas on how to improve that?

7  retro floral shirred top in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by hellobint on: July 20, 2008 07:47:51 AM
so this weekend i decided to finally use the floral fabric i bought last summer.  I decided it was more colourful with a yellow contrast (it kind of warmed up the other colours), so made a yellow bust panel and side pleats, and shirred the back - its the first time i've done shirring and i'm pretty pleased with it.  The back is not as wonky as it looks, i'm wearing it over another top!

Front

Back

Side

One problem - underneath the shirring, it is very 'full' - sometimes it ends up making me look hunchback!  I don't know if I should put another set of shirring lower down - i'm not sure if that would help?  any advice gratefully received!

ps - it also still needs pressing so excuse the creased look!

8  virgo horoscope bracelet in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by hellobint on: July 13, 2008 04:53:12 AM
I made this bracelet for a swap and my partner has just received.  It was a total surprise - it was designed to be the 'little extra' but it turned out my favourite!

Its hand drawn shrink plastic, on a figaro chain.  I've been make my own chains for a while now but its my first piece of plastic and I'm totally addicted now!!  I got so excited that i've made about 20 more pieces in about a week (oops - now i just have to wear them all!)

i'm thinking about possibly starting to sell, but i honestly don't know if people would pay to buy this sort of thing (it would have to sell about USD$25) - what do you guys think?

9  tree cushion covers in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by hellobint on: July 13, 2008 04:44:34 AM
i'm really pleased with these, i made them for a swap and they are my partners favourite bit!

They are actually made from offcuts of curtain (ALWAYS buy curtains too long, then trim = free material)...  The first tree was traced and then the rest were drawn freehand.  They close like pillow cases (with a flap at the back).  The back is a softer fabric (it was the lining) to make them a bit more cuddly, and the closure has contrast brown stitching.

Finally, I like the fact the covers are all slightly different sizes - I did this when I made my first cushions and it means you end up with one firmer pillow (for being lazy and lying on), plus squashy ones for cuddling!  Let me know what you guys think ...

10  Re: Craft My Wists-Summer 2008 Swap in The Swap Gallery by hellobint on: July 13, 2008 04:36:26 AM
I'm so glad you liked it all kook!!
i don't have loads of pictures but i do have a few ...

Flower brooch

I loved this, it was so easy to make but so pretty.  I think I'll be reproducing this for christmas presents!!

Tree cushion covers

You can just about see the contrast brown stitching on the back, they are slightly different sizes so the cushions come out slightly different levels of 'squashy'!  Its a set of four, all the trees are based on the same pattern but they've all ended up looking slightly different!

And my fave, the virgo pendant ...

This was the final bit i made and I was so pleased with how it came out.  It would be good to get some opinions - I'm thinking about starting to sell some jewellery, but I honestly don't know if people would pay for it!!  What do you guys think (it would have to retail around USD$25/GBP13)?

thanks all for a great swap ...
