51  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Good First Project? on: February 25, 2007 03:29:30 PM
Hi everyone! I just got my first sewing machine (of my adult life anyhow), and I am having trouble figuring out what my first project should be. I tried to make a slouchy hobo bag-from the tutorial on craftster and it was too confusing. then i tried to make a shirt from a pattern (it was labeled very easy) and that was too confusing. My mom is going to help me figure out the pattern, but in the mean time i would really like to make something.

can anyone suggest a simple project for me?

thanks in advance!

53  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / hat help on: February 12, 2007 06:27:48 PM
ok. i am very confused. i am working on my first crochet project. it's a dreadlock hat. The last rounds directions were

"Ch 4, *1 dc in next st, ch 2) repeat from * around, join (30 sts)"

i am supposed to repeat this row 6 times. so i guess my question is what exactly is "the next stitch" that they want me to double crochet in. since i am making 2 chains for every double crochet that adds alot of extra sts. should i double crochet in every st including the chains? or should i only double crochet in the double crochet sts?

i hope this makes sense... please help me!

58  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Ideas for Reconstuction Project on: November 16, 2006 05:42:46 PM
Hi everyone! I am new here. I am doing a project in which I must pick an object and deconstruct it then reassemble it as something different. The final result should be a dynamic sculpture that doesn't resemble the original object. We can't use stuffed animals or computers. I am having trouble coming up with ideas for what to use. I am thinking about a pair of shoes, any other ideas for objects that could be interesting???

thanks!
