pinkyyarn- thank ya :> i just feel super tedious posting skirt after similar skirt.. but.. the first skirt i made took me 5+ hours this one took me about an hour from cutting to clipping threads when done.. was either spend time doing repetitive projects or reach frustration thresh hold with sewing and quit. it forced me to get much better acquainted with basics of my sewing machine.. so this skirt a day thing is really like self imposed sewing bootcamp for me.. only alot more fun. and it involves textiles and not mud. ok, maybe not like bootcamp.

anyway, yes, mr. pumpkin chunks really is a hefty kitty. he's recently gotten started on an exercise regiment, he really Is in bootcamp "wake up, it's 8am time to chase the laser pointer!" he's soft and squishy and wonderful and there are few things i enjoy as much in this world as hugging the squishmonster but i worry about his health, so now we all get to exercise. random factoid about demonic eyed kitty- he is going to be 19 next month. yeay for feline longevity!

today's skirt... it's gotten cat approval at least, or maybe he just wants some catnip. i'm trying to learn something new with every skirt i sew. there's alot to learn..
today's lessons
don't screw up using bias tape for a hem. it turns into another lesson in stitch removal.
once your cat chews on your bias tape it's pretty much agonner.
darts are your friend- making them symmetrical is not so friendly but it is possible
i'm resigned to just handsewing zippers rather than arguing with the machine, in the future i'll just do it while i watch a movie

33  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Vintage reconned slip - chocolate and strawberries on: August 01, 2008 08:09:28 PM
ok, back to your post again because on a separate brain path earlier today i was thinking- i've been making lots of skirts.. hmm most aren't lined.. hmm some are too sheer.. hmm i would like slips..
so now i have a perfect reason to actually try my hand at emulating the vintage glory. a justified love!

what kind of material are the ones you're using made of, that take the dye so nicely and politely...?
do you make up the designs you embroider on or is there some wealth of embroidery patterns out there that i just need to explore?

for some reason i'm totally hooked on wanting adorable slips now.

ooooh said me when i saw the pics. i love the fabric. and it's so pretty with that style shirt. it's so feminine and flows without looking like candysweetgirliness <mind you, i have nothing against candysweetgirliness and was trying to figure out how to make a skirt that looked like a cupcake earlier>    it just works so well together. and appropriate for 101 different places. ok. can't quite express my admiration of the shirt. it's just the kind of thing i'd want to wear all the time.. "i feel blah and want to feel pretty" "it's a miracle, i feel pretty today and want to be girlie" "i want something comfortable and not a tshirt" ok. seriously. i've started to make an imaginary friendship over the internet with someone elses shirt. i'm going to go now.

37  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Asian Brocade Tops on: August 01, 2008 07:56:49 AM
lovely, lovely, lovely. and i'm in awe. i have exactly one memory of trying to sew a brocade. i'm not sure what happened but in the end i was left with a frayed pile of fabric and no sewing project.  i am in awe that you made shirt after shirt, and they're gleefully brighthappy

thank you pinkropers and lollipop-
mmmmk. i'm gonna keep the skirt.. i'm even going to try and make it end up in my handwash only bag....
which means i need to try and fix that lump over on my left hand side over the hip. i just keep sewing skirts over and over again. and again. and again. i might have to try this one again.. in something solid... without the strange fabric qualities of cardboard and stretch lycra. and maybe in a solid.. arg. sewing machine here i come. hmmm and maybe if it wasn't stretched over wiiiide part of hips it wouldn't gape at the pleat. and if there was more room in the width it wouldn't. and there'd be enough .. hmm maybe it needs two box pleats. maybe two box pleats would be weird. maybe it needs to be pink though. oh god i don't know.

thank you for condolences on my mother though pinkroper.. i miss her... i tend to sew obsessively these days while i miss her. we use sew and craft together so.. i miss her. and i sew and i sew and i sew. she got tired of my drab colour choices and started converting me to things like this- joyfulexuberantpurp legoodness

so cutecomfy looking. pattern on unending list of patterns i want. desire to sew dresses reinforced. thank you. i have a weird obsession with bias tape, so i'd say yes. other people are probably wise with suggesting versatility and not putting ties on in the back though. no matter what though, super cute and comfy looking.

i keep making skirts, lots and lots of skirts. i am learning many, many ways to mess up skirts. sometime when i finish learning how to not mess up skirts i would like to make many cute little summer dresses like yours:)
