1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: First post: Octopus Baby Blanket on: November 22, 2006 07:21:21 AM
eirle: it got a little crazy with the colors. basically i had all three colors attached most of the time. when i got to the octopus part i crocheted over the white yarn, running it inside the purple to the other side of the graphic. i used the same method for continuing the dark purple between each tentacle spots.  once i was done with the purple section i just let the string hang and continued with the white.  (i hope all that makes sense) The Happy Hooker has some good hints for this technique in the jolly roger sweater pattern.

thanks everyone! it was such a fun project to do.

dntysgrplm: right after completing the blanket our computer crashed and I lost the design completely (along with everything else)  Cry.  i have been searching around our other machine just in case i saved it elsewhere. if i find it i would be more than happy to post it.  Smiley

It has been amazing to see everyone's work here, so I thought I would finally post one of mine.

I made this Happy Octopus Baby Blanket for a friend who recently had a baby.  She didn't want anything super gendered and she didn't like the color yellow, so I decided to go with purple. The octopus was a little character drawn by my partner which I grided out for double crocheted rows.  I made it out of super soft yarn that was also washer friendly, so that it was easy clean-up for the new mom. It took me about a month of commutes on the train (pretty much my only time to crochet) to complete it and I think it came out pretty cute.  Smiley

The top looks great and I really like your colors. I have been looking at a top just like this that was way too much money for me to justify buying.  So happy that I can now make it!
