1  Re: Post Photos of Your Tattoos! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by Red Paint on: July 02, 2008 10:37:33 PM
Okay, I can't wait 'til it heals, I'll post pics anyway (the drop shadow is still a bit red, but I just can't wait to post pics)  --

From "She's Crafty" by the Beastie Boys:
"She's crafty - she gets around
She's crafty - she's always down
She's crafty - she's got a gripe
She's crafty - and she's just my type
She's crafty"

Yes, indeed.  From the same song: "The girl is crafty like ice is cold!"

And my feet together (pencil & needle not really to scale with each other.  Oh well!)
(when the right foot was fresher: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=12114.msg1383034#msg1383034)

If anyone is in the pacific northwest (more specifically, Seattle), Erika @ Slave to the Needle (Ballard) is AMAZING. I'm so excited to go back to her for more!

Finally got my camera to work...

I got such a sweet haul in package #3 from Anya Kase.  She made it around another theme: "Pretty in Pink aka Hooray for Boobies!" (I'm participating in my 4th Avon Walk for Breast Cancer next weekend; raising at least $1800 and walking 39.3 miles over 2 days, so it's a big part of my life right now)...

Anyway, as always, Anya Kase's packages have all been beautifully wrapped:

Some of the goodies -- a breast cancer awareness bracelet & necklace, some crazy pink hair ribbons to wear during the walk, some lip balm and nail polish, and some pink snowballs because when taped together, they look like boobs  Grin  :

And a beautifully quilted tote bag; proceeds from the fabric sale went to breast cancer research (snowballs shown in the first pic for scale) :

And a close-up of the gorgeous stitching:

THANKS, ANYA KASE!  What a great swap this has been!

Finally getting around to posting my awesome package #2 from Anya Kase...  She did a "the 50's were for the birds" theme because I love birds and some 50's stuff (housewife kitsch)

All wrapped up pretty -- (with a picture drawn by her daughter on the right)

The pic from her daughter (I interpret it as a giraffe, my favorite animal.  Isn't she sweet?)

Some of the loot -- paper bead bracelets she and her kids made (which actually served as the next for a cute crochet bluebird), a breast cancer pin that her husband made (it's an important cause to me. Her husband makes and sells them: www.pyrateswag.etsy.com), some AWESOME swallow earrings, and some cute ladybug buttons

More stuff! A knitting kit so I can make a cell phone sleeve that I want, one of TWO rockstar tea towels she embroidered with my initials, & a cupcake potholder

A cute bluebird she crocheted (she sent it in a nest, I don't know why I didn't photograph the nest, but it was supercute)

Cute ceramic bird:

AND (drumroll please), this AMAZING apron she made:

Isn't it amazing?!?!?!? Close up of the embroidery ("too cute to cook"), with sushi box and coke bottle button details!  And rad swallows!

The apron has this incredibly cool fabric for which she traveled far and wide to find:

Seriously, my jaw dropped, I'm so spoiled! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Anya Kase!

I'm so lucky!!!  Got my package from the awesome Anya Kase yesterday...

Everything was very prettily wrapped with black glittery paper (overexposed pic, oops)

All of the awesomeness:

Including dark chocolate (which is not long for this world, mwa-ha-ha), playing cards from a recent trip she took, her favorite tea (chai -- YUM), really pretty Indian temporary tattoos, a pretty bindi (noticing an Indian theme?  Cheesy ), a CD from a local radio station, purfume (smells super sexy), a bumper sticker from a local band, a Dr. Who book, fabric in all of my favorite colors!, felt to add to my stash (in pretty earth tones), AWESOME orange & pink arm warmers, embroidery floss cards (that she made -- can't have enough of those!)...

Detail of the fabric and stationary...  She sent a huge package of cards and envelopes in all of my favorite colors:

And the CUTEST COIN PURSE EVER!  Anya Kase and I share a love of embroidery (and sushi)... The reverse side is embroidered with "I (heart) sushi", you can see the other side on the big picture with all of the items above.

And obligatory action shot with my favorite item -- the orange arm warmers with pink ribbons. So pretty, and yet somehow, I feel like such a rockin' badass when I wear 'em.

Thanks, Anya Kase!

5  Butterfly Effect: Order & Chaos Embroidered Pillowcases in CHALLENGE 22 ENTRIES by Red Paint on: November 01, 2007 09:21:29 PM
I paired order and chaos on pillowcases for the latest craftster challenge...  and went with the concept of the butterfly effect to transition between the two.  ("On this side of the bed we have a nice orderly pattern, then a butterfly flapped its wings and set off chaos on the right side of the bed.")

New ink!  Pic is a little shiny, this was taken as soon as I took the bandage off.

7  My first book (canvas, felt, & tea-stained paper) in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Red Paint on: November 15, 2006 06:51:57 PM
Going through some boxes, I found the first book I made... The binding quality isn't great...  I made it at the start of 2001 for a good friend of mine (he's a writer; his name starts with N, hence the N on the cover).  He is now my husband.   Grin

I soaked the paper in tea to dye it, then ripped the edges for the deckled look. (And you can sorta tell here that he still hasn't written in it!)

You can see the poor binding job here, but it's still holding, almost 6 years later.  This is the inside back cover; I wove some strips of paper together on the inside back cover and signed it.

On the inside front cover, I wrote the song lyrics "'Even when you're wrong I think you're great.' -Jets to Brazil"

8  Re: Felt book (baby name book) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Red Paint on: November 15, 2006 06:23:01 PM
Here's another one I made -- kind of a rush order, and the only pics I have are low quality...

I like the cover on this one, I like the red letters with purple stitches.

(last name deleted); O is for Octopus

W is for Whale; E is for Elephant
The color is off on this one, the background of the whale is actually a really pretty pale pink.

N is for Night -- those are pine trees cut out of the black felt, it's hard to see in this pic.

9  Felt book (baby name book) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Red Paint on: November 15, 2006 12:16:59 PM
Taking the concept that plumpkin so generously shared, I made a book out of felt and embroidery thread...

(And scroll down the page for another post with pics from another book)

cover of book... the design below the name is supposed to be a heart with dots around it (made out of knotted thread), but it's hard to see.

inside front cover -- baby's name and birthdate; E is for eggs

L is for ladybugs; E is for elephant

N is for nest; A is for alligator

back cover is purple polka dots with my name sewn in the corner.

I had such fun with this project -- many thanks to plumpkin for the idea!
