1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Throw Pillows on: July 21, 2011 09:01:48 AM
I used a beach towel to cover these throw pillows!  It worked so well. Smiley  What do you think?

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / GPS Case (feat. Curious George!) on: July 21, 2011 08:30:13 AM
I had been storing my GPS in a sock... yes a sock... for almost a year before I finally got around to making this case for it.  Works perfectly!  Now my parents want me to make them one.  For the record, using a sock worked fine too, but I guess this is cuter.  Tongue

What do you think?

3  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / 1/3 of a Beach Towel on: July 20, 2011 10:32:43 PM
So... I used most of a really cute teal and white zebra striped beach towel to make throw pillows, but I still have some left.  Way too much to pitch.  I thought about making some coasters but I don't really think thick terrycloth is the best choice for them.  My second thought is to cut the piece in half and make kitchen towels.  I don't need kitchen towels, though.  Ideas?!?!  Huh
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Help me learn to SPRAY PAINT, please. on: June 26, 2011 09:20:19 AM
I have two adopted lamps that were living in my parents' attic and are now in my living room, but they are not pretty.  The bases are a combination of dark-stained wood and brass.  The shades are a whole other story, but I bought nice new ones that I plan to use.  Anyway, I want to spray paint the bases, but I have spray painted maybe 2 times in my life and I don't know what I'm doing.

Do I need to sand, prime, or otherwise prepare the bases before painting?

Do I need to use special paint to cover both wood and metal?

Do you have any recommendations of good brands of spray paint (or brands to stay away from)?

Thank you!
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Lack of Motivation (not to be confused with lack of inspiration) on: April 05, 2011 09:05:59 AM
I love to sew, I really do, but lately (past several months) I am just totally lacking the motivation to actually start any of the projects I dream up.  Or if I do start one, I don't always finish it.  I have plenty of ideas, but just have trouble following through!  Just wondering if this happens to anyone else, and what you do to combat it?  Undecided
6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Cake + Mittens on: February 01, 2011 11:46:32 AM
Hey all.  I recently started a blog... pretty much just for fun, I'm not trying to gain national acclaim or anything.  I've never had a blog before, but after looking around for a little while I chose wordpress and so far I think I like it.  Please take a look and let me know what you think!  Thank you!   Smiley

7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / pom headband on: November 24, 2010 12:54:28 PM
My first forays into crochet were about a year ago... but then I stopped.  A couple of days ago I found the time to get back into it and I made this cozy headband with a big pom pom.  Yay, warm and happy me.  Smiley

The yarn I used is nothing special... some kind of craft yarn I found in my parents' basement a long time ago.

Comments welcome!
8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Wearing Your Own Work on: April 30, 2010 09:21:14 AM
Hello all.  I've been out of the habit of sewing, once my favorite pastime...  Undecided  I'm trying to jump back in, and I was thinking, 'wouldn't it be nice if I could wear something that I've made and actually like, every week?'

And then I thought, that's probably crumbs compared to how often some of those craftsters wear their own work.  So, about how often do you wear things you've made?  If you're wearing your own work today, show us a pic!  If you want.

Just curious.  Now go on, inspire me.  Wink
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Wide elastic - where to buy? on: January 16, 2010 11:43:41 AM
I'd really like to find some wide elastic - about 2 inches or more wide - to use for skirt and dress waistbands.  Not the kind you put in a casing, the kind you sew straight onto the fabric.  Does anyone know of a good place online to buy this, especially in a variety of colors?  Thanks!
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Yoga Pants on: January 01, 2010 01:01:05 PM
What a good start to the new year!  I used one school t-shirt, plus a bit of another school t-shirt, to make these very comfy yoga pants!  I'd never made pants this way before and the fit turned out to be much better than I anticipated.  It probably helped that I tried them on several times in the process of making them.  All in all, new pants to wear while I watch my team in the Sugar Bowl tonight! Comments (good and bad) welcome.  Smiley
